NEW YORK — Fresh from a triumphant concert in Central Park, Bon Jovi Monday night moved the music indoors for a show at Madison Square Garden.
The Jersey Shore-based band performed Saturday at Central Park to 50,000 fans as part of festivities for Major League Baseball's All-Star game, which will be played tonight at Yankee Stadium.
The concert Monday night was more intimate — Jon Bon Jovi described the crowd as "20,000 people who looked like me."
That wasn't true, of course. A good many in the audience were enthusiastic, shiny-haired women who waved their arms in time with the music. More than one warned those near her, "I get a little crazy at Bon Jovi shows."
But Bon Jovi's assessment of the crowd was spot-on in another sense: This was Bon Jovi Nation, an extended family of fans who wanted to hear the hits.
And that wish was granted. Material from the band's current album, "Lost Highway," was highlighted, but so were many of the gold standards of arena rock from the band's catalog.
