Hollywood Reporter article

NEW DELHI -- Live Earth, 2007's globe-spanning concert fundraiser for the environment, will be back this year -- but only in one country.

Jon Bon Jovi will headline the only encore of last year's Live Earth concert series, playing Dec. 7 at the 20,000-seat Mumbai Andheri Sports Complex, organizers said Friday.

Bon Jovi will share the stage with iconic Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan, among others, at the event co-produced by Mumbai-based event management company Wizcraft Entertainment and Live Earth producer Kevin Wall.

Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur ("Elizabeth") will serve as creative director for the event. The event is a reprise of the series organized by former U.S. Vice President Al Gore to promote awareness of and solutions for global environmental degradation. An estimated 2 billion people watched 150 acts perform simultaneously in 11 cities around the world.

"Awareness activates change and important issues deserve a global platform," Wall said. "That's why the stage for Live Earth India will host some of the biggest artists from India to the U.S. and beyond, while we bring India to the world. And the world has a lot to learn from traditional Indian culture about sustainability."

Indian acts participating, ticket pricing and sponsorships are still being worked out, Wizcraft said.

Bachchan family members, including actress wife Jaya, actor son Abhishek and his wife, former Miss World and actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, are expected to participate.

"India will be among the leading powers of the global economy in the coming decades," Gore said. "As a democracy that is looked up to by many nations, especially for its commitment to inclusive growth for its diverse peoples, India has a major role to play in leadership by example for the climate crisis and sustainable development."
