Dallas Pre-Show Article 2 May 2001

Source: GuideLive

As one of the great old-school rock bands, Bon Jovi built its reputation as much on its live show as its recordings. So it's rather a surprise that it took all this time – nearly 20 years – for the New Jersey quintet to put out a live disc.

One Wild Night comes out May 22, comprising old tracks – "Bad Medicine," "Wanted Dead or Alive" – and new, including its latest anthem, "It's My Life," which has been adopted by everyone from the German soccer team to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Paradoxically, it was being off the road that inspired the live CD. After a five-year break, Bon Jovi returned to touring last year in support of its 2000 disc, Crush. It was also a matter of finding the time, especially for its two most visible members, Jon Bon Jovi and guitarist Richie Sambora. Both stay busy outside the group with solo records, and Mr. Bon Jovi has an active film career. He spent the last three months shooting a vampire movie in Mexico. Working title: Los Muertos.

"It's like a Western, from the point of view of the vampire hunter," he says. "It's not a ghoulish vampire movie with fake blue lights. It doesn't look comic-book – it looks real."

The movie provided a break from touring, but Bon Jovi will be back on the road for most of the summer.
