Live, Friday, 19 October 2001
The Alliance of Neighbors benefit concert featuring Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, Phoebe Snow, and Joan Jett will be broadcast live Friday (Oct. 19) via Philadelphia-based cable television provider Comcast's CN8-The Comcast Network channel. The event will be the second of two sold-out shows at the 1,400-capacity Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, N.J., to benefit area victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Also due to take part are E Street Band bassist Garry Tallent and drummer Max Weinberg, Joe Ely, Aztec Two-Step, Randy Moore, Highway 9 (formerly Sam Hill), and the Pilgrim Baptist Church Celestial Choir of Red Bank, as well as former members of Elvis Presley's backing band, Sonny Burgess, D. J. Fontana, and Jerry Sheff.
CN8 -- which reaches 4 million households in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland -- will begin coverage at 8 p.m. and carry the event through its expected midnight completion, "although it could go well beyond," according to a CN8 spokesperson.
Along with proceeds from the Oct. 18 and 19 concerts, funds will be solicited online through allianceofneighbors.org and a special toll-free number that will be active during the broadcast.
