"Keep The Faith" Review 12 June 2002
Keep The Faith

Well, I guess I revieuwed everything fron Keep The Faith, well almost, not the singles...

A review by Sebastiaan / Supersonic@xinix.nu

Keep the Faith

This is the first album after a break of three years. Was it worth the waiting ? Well you could say they have changed, it sounds different compared to the albums before this one. When you listen to “New Jersey” and than to “Keep The Faith”, you could really say that you’re jumping from the eighties to the nineties. Bon Jovi has released 27(!) songs while Keep The Faith was released, And then I didn’t count the singles. So this will be a list in alphabetical order, there’s a track list down this page.

Bad Medicine
I’ve never liked this song so much either…until I heard this version, this is a real good version of this song. When Richie has finished his first solo the song ‘s getting calm and Jon starts to talk to the crowd. You can hear that the crowd is having a real good time. Now I’ve been to a Bon Jovi concert I know that Jon can’t really see al the people so you know would have said it if there would have stand only guys at the first row, but who cares ? (8/10)

Bed Of Roses
One of their best ballads to date. Every one in Holland liked this one though again it didn’t hit the charts, No 14, but it stayed in the charts for a very long time. This ballad is very powerful with a beautiful guitar solo. But when you’re a guitar player and you can play this solo, and you can also play the solo of “Livin’ On A Prayer”, you’ll notice that the beginning is a bit the same. When you’re not a guitar player you won’t notice it because the solo’s are played on a different guitar. But I like the song and that’s the whole point. (10/10)

Bed Of Roses (Acoustic)
The first time I heard Bon Jovi playing acoustic and I was really surprised that it was that
good. This song is just as good as the original. I think this song has got more emotions as the
original. When I heard this song I didn’t get it why they never released a “Bon Jovi, MTV
Unplugged” record, because it’s very good. (9/10)

Blame It On The love Of Rock & Roll
Again a beginning with a drum rhythm and later a cowbell, just like “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead”. This is the first time I can hear David playing the piano on this album. Well, let’s lay, I can hear him play an important role in the song. Like the title says, this is really a rock & roll song.(10/10)

Blaze Of Glory
The first live song from Bon Jovi where I could hear the crowd sing, It sounds good and the solo is the same as the album version but this time played by Richie. This song is also not so special to put on a live record. The only thing that is special about it is that it’s a solo track of Jon. (8/10)

Cama De Rosas
This is nothing but a Spanish version of the song. I’ve asked one time to a Spanish fan if he’s
singing it a bit correct, and he told me that Jon should “practise a bit more to repeat such an
action. But to me it doesn’t sound so bad, though I also think he should keep it to the
English. (7/10)

Dry County
The song with the best guitar solo of all the Bon Jovi songs. It’s also the longest guitar solo
of all the Bon Jovi songs. I’ve got nothing to complain about this song. It’s just good.
This song had also a shorter version but that’s logic because the original version
is 9:52 long and that’s too long for a radio version. But even with the shorter version it’s
longer that six minutes. Of course the original is better. (10/10)

Fear
One of the songs that’s not so good but also not bad. I don’t like the end I think they could have done without this song though it’s not that bad, it’s just not as good compared to the rest of the songs (7/10)

I Believe
Great opener for an album where you waited three years for. You really jump into this
album. This song has got an up tempo sound. This is really a song to perform live, for
example at the end when Jon sings : “Whoo, and that the rest of the band repeats Whoo.
When the band repeats this you just need to sing with them. We all know that this is the
way to let the crowd sing your song. Now the only complaining I’ve got is that the end is to
fast faded away. A year after the release of this album this song came out as a single. This
version was different, but I think the original is better. (10/10)

I Believe (Live)
Well, it’s simply said a fantastic song. And they also played it fantastic. Simple but effective
guitar solo, and the chorus is sand excellent. (10/10)

If I Was Your Mother
Now as usual there are always on every album from Bon Jovi a one or two songs they
could have done without. This is one of those songs. This song get’s the whole tempo out
of this album. I don’t mean that all the songs should be fast, but this song hasn’t got the
feeling that I have with the rest of the songs, I don’t like this song at all (1/10)

I’ll Be There For You (live)
I’ve never liked this ballad so much though I know a lot of you fans do. Well, what else can I say about this song. It’s got a powerful chorus and good to sing along. They play it very good. Though it’s just not one of my favourites. (9/10)

I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead
Another song with a fast tempo. I like the drum rhythm with the cowbells and than the guitar and than Jon. There’s a live version where Jon is singing the first couplet only with the drums. I think they should have done that in the original version. This song didn’t really hit the charts in Holland but I think the reason was that they Released “In These Arms” before this one and “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” and “In These Arms” are the same sort of song, both with a positive feeling. (9/10)

I'll Sleep When I'm Dead (Live)
Also one of the better live tracks. Actually you can say that when they kicked of their “Keep The Faith” tour they played almost everything good. (9/10)

In These Arms
The biggest hit in Holland from this album, It became number eight. Which I think is much too low, a top three position would have been much more acceptable. This song is just as positive as ”I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead”, maybe even more positive. It begins calm the chorus is wilder than the second couplet is wilder as the first one, than again a wilder chorus, the bridge and than again a real “feel good-solo” The song is over before you know. This song is just like “Keep The Faith” one of my favourites. (10/10)

In These Arms (live)
Nothing but a live version of the original so not so special. Again the end is longer but there’s nothing special about it. The song is good but not so special to put on a live-record.(8/10)

I Want You
One of the songs they could have done without. I like this song better than “If I Was Your
Mother” but I still think that they should have put this song on a shelf to make it a b-side.(4/10)

Keep The Faith
This song is my favourite Bon Jovi song, just like “Keep The Faith” is my favourite album.
Because the beginning is perfect, the solo is perfect, Jon’s singing perfect and…etc. This song is really starting calm though it has got an very fast drum rhythm. When Richie is playing his solo you think he’s really giving you everything he’s got. It’s not one of the best guitarists but this solo has really got a good feeling. After the solo the song is getting calm but not for long, it gets his tempo back and could go on and on. This is also a perfect song to perform live, because everybody sings wit this song “Faith”. The single version has got an shorter solo which I don’t get. I think if they had let the solo the same length it would have had just as much airplay as with the short solo. When you’re listen careful you can hear that they’ve cut in it, now I don’t care if you cut in a song but than you should do it good. So I think that the original is better that the single version. (10/10)

Keep The Faith (live)
They never play the first notes before the bass loop anymore. Why is that ? This version is
much longer as the original version, but the extra time isn’t so special because Richie is just
playing the solo again with some different loops. Now they’ve played this track on a lot of tours the song has changed at the end and I think it’s much better now. But this was just the beginning, It was on the first tour to promote the album “Keep The Faith” so it’s not so weird that the later live performances of this song are better. (10/10)

Lay Your Hands On Me (live)
Now this is the perfect track to perform live. I like this song very much with it’s powerful beginning, where everybody shouts ; ,,Hey” !! ,when Tico is banging the drums. Than The
real rhythm starts and the show begins. (10/10)

Little Bit Of Soul
And than, for you American people, the last song on the album. (If you didn’t import the
Japanese or European versions.) A calm end for such an wild album. Not that this is a calm
song, but I think that this song never get’s on a good tempo. It sounds a bit like a b-side
that wants to be an a-side (7/10)

Never Say Goodbye (Accoustic)
Again a very good accoustic song, I even like this song better than the original. There’s
nothing more I can say about this song. (9/10)

Save a Prayer
A song with a real negative message. Like “Keep The Faith” this song has also got a conscious message. It’s a weird song because it’s not the usual Bon Jovi, I like this song. I don’t think they should have put this track on this album because this album has got on most of the tracks a positive feeling and than on the end of this album you hear this song. and it takes away the positive feeling. So you should be in the mood for this song. (9/10)

Starting All Over Again
Now this is something I really don’t get. This is one of the best songs they’ve ever made
So why don’t make “If I Was Your Mother” or “I Want You” a bonus track and put this
track on all the “Keep The Faith” albums because this track could even have been a single.
(10/10)

Tokyo Road (live)
This is the best live version I’ve ever heard of that song. “Take me back to Tokyo Road
baby” ! And then you can hear they really enjoy playing that song. It’s after “In And Out Of
Love” my favourite track from “7800° Fahrenheit. (10/10)

Woman In Love
The only song on the album that they didn’t release as a single and that I like. Good fast tempo and a good fast guitar solo, although it’s a little one. Again I’ve got nothing to complain about this song. I don’t get why a lot of you do. (10/10)

Enhanced CD Video : Keep The Faith (live)
Well, they released this video in 1997,and most of the computers couldn’t handle a high resolution, so they decided to do a low resolution so that everyone with a computer could enjoy this video. Well, that’s very nice of the guys. But if you look at those video’s now, it’s a very “ugly” screen. But that’s the only disadvantage of this video. Most of you guys know how Bon Jovi is live, so there were no surprises for us. But I’d rather had a extra song instead of a video. (7/10)
