8 July 2001 - Milwaukee, WI, USA Concert Review |

Summerfest went out with a bang!
The presence of Jon alone would've made last night a night to remember, but for the sake of others, I'll lengthen my review. The concert was wonderful, though there was a lot of waiting involved between acts. (The support act, Eve 6, seemed to be having some problems. They were a bit difficult to hear from where I was, so there's not much I can say there.) Bon Jovi were every bit worth the wait. From the second they entered through the "elevator" to the moment left, the band was so very energetic; and you could easily tell that they were really getting into everything they did.
The music was better than ever, and it was lots of fun watching, from Richie's dynamic guitar solos to Jon's emotional songs. It's amazing how he danced around the stage so much and didn't manage to wear himself out. And though this was my first concert, and I have nothing to compare it to, there was little anyone could have done to make it a better first time.
Song-wise, they played: One Wild Night (I can't tell the difference between the two versions), You Give Love a Bad Name, Raise Your Hands, It's My Life, Wild in the Streets, I Got the Girl, Just Older, In These Arms, Born to Be My Baby, Always, Lay Your Hands On Me, I'll Be There For You, Bad Medicine, and Shout. (Not in exact same order, I'm sure.) For the encore, there was Tequila, Twist and Shout, Someday I'll Be Saturday Night, and I'll Sleep when I'm Dead, and they ended with Wanted Dead or Alive.
I think some of the crowd was a bit disappointed that the band avoided playing Livin' On a Prayer, but in my opinion, they made up for that a thousand times over with all the other things they did. Now I see why it's called one wild night.
