13 July 2001 - Chicago, IL, USA Concert Review 15 July 2001
Truly one WILD night

A review by Vipond / bonjovipond@hotmail.com

Because I'm only fourteen years old and I live two and a half hours away from what is now the Tweeter Center, I was accompanied to my first Bon Jovi concert by my hyperactive friend and my unexcited father. By the end my friend and I were tired but still hyped up and my dad's comment was "I don't see why your friends don't like Bon Jovi."

Bon Jovi kicked. I knew they performed well live- TV shows and whatnot- but they did better than I expected, and I expected a lot. The show was otherworldly to say the least. They all had so much energy, particularly Jon. Every song they played was perfect. The only regret that I have is that they didn't play "Wanted Dead or Alive" (my personal all-time favorite song) sooner- but then, it was the last song [of their own] that they played, so I suppose that was good selection. And I must say, Jon putting a bra on his head is probably the funniest thing I've ever seen.

I was amazed by Richie playing "Stranger In This Town"- I don't have the CD yet and never got the mp3's, and he has such an amazing voice. You never really hear it when they're playing as a group (not to say I don't like Jon's voice, I love Jon's voice). And I loved Jon's comments before Richie played, and this is a good theory- "We believe that everything should be one week long- if it was up to us, Christmas would be one week long, New Year's would be one week long, and so we're celebrating Richie's birthday all week long." (My thoughts were, "Pay day should be one week long...")

I guess the only way to sum it up is that there's only one band that compells me to stand on my feet and jump around in three-inch chunky-heeled leather boots, scream my lungs out until two days later my throat still hurts only a week before a musical I'm in opens, and paint the lead singer onto a tank top to wear with a black feather boa and hand-rhinestoned pants to wear to summer school (and trust me I got a lot of strange looks for it but I don't care, they are after all my favorite band), and that's the only band that can show Chicago what "One Wild Night" really means- Bon Jovi.
