19 July 2001 - Montreal, Quebec, Canada Concert Review 24 July 2001
Nice show, even though...

A review by Caroline Marie / karojovi@hotmail.com

This show was - finally - my first Bon Jovi show after 8 years of waiting. You can imagine how excited I was since I had my tickets in March to see the band live!! All the BJ friends I have kept telling me that Jon and the guys are EXCELLENT on stage so when the magic night arrived, I had many expectations!

The first and main one was to hear my BJ #1 song, BED OF ROSES... Or Always would have made me happy, too. But no, nothing! I don't mind the show having no ballads, it's different, but at least play Bed of Roses or Always! Those two songs are loved by many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many BJ fans in Montreal area and were big hits when they came out here, so...

The other one was that Jon and the guys seemed in a good shape, but not as good if I compare to the Wembley show on the "Live from London" VHS where Jon moved a lot and everything... And I don't know if my ears had a problem or I was hearing badly but gosh, in some songs, Jon seemed to have a high pitch voice!

But one thing that surely didn't help was the crowd... Except the friend with who I went to the show, around me, everybody - or almost - was seated! And some of them were looking at me strangely because I was dancing and singing and screaming... The crowd started to participate more at around the end of the show... I'm sorry but that's TOO LATE!! And in the area where I was, one thing that saddened me was that some of the people who were standing sat down at Richie's Stranger In This Town!!! Come on, it's not because you don't know the lyrics and that it's not Jon that you have to sit down!! Richie is not only a #1 guitar player, he's also a great singer!!

In general, I found the show good... Maybe not as I imagined it but anyways... And I don't know why but when I left, and even when I think about it today, I kind of have a feeling of emptiness... Oh well...!

But the friend with who I went just loved the show... She said she would go back anytime! She never saw any Bon Jovi shows on TV so maybe it helped her to love the show more, who knows!

If I would have to give a mark to the show... I would give maybe a 7/10... I would probably go again when they'll come in Montreal and I would try to have less expectations and do like it was the first time I was watching a BJ show...!

One thing that would have been great and I don't know if it has been done in a show in Montreal or Quebec... Why doesn't Jon say a word or two in French, besides "c'est la vie" in One Wild Night? It would have been nice from him!
