22 July 2001 - Hershey, PA, USA Concert Review 24 July 2001
Great Show!!!

A review by Lisa / ldutchervh@aol.com

The concert at Hershey, PA was my third Bon Jovi concert in the past 9 months. I saw them in Wilkesbarre Pa in November and in May I saw them in Albany, NY. I have to say that this was not the best concert of the three. There seemed to be something lacking. It might be that this was a stadium concert vs an arena concert. The atmosphere is definately different. It was a big hassle getting into the parking lot of the concert. I took us almost 1 1/2 hours to eight miles. After the concert it took us about 2 hours to get back through those eight miles. But it was worth the time.

The concert on Sunday was great as usual. Jon and the boys were full of energy. Jon looked tired but his voice was perfect. They only played for 2 hours. The setlist was very close to the set we heard for the crush tour. It seemed like alot of the audience didn't recognize alot of these songs. I guess they haven't worn out their CRUSH CD like I have. It was nice to hear Richie sing more this time. He is very talented and a very important part of the show. The chemistry between Jon and Richie is great. You can tell that they like eachother and feed off of each other. You can see it in their eyes when they look at eachother. I think this was done save Jon's voice. Jon seemed to be rubbing his throat and taking things for his throat through out the concert. He seemed to drink more and had several mugs by the drums that he was drinking out of. He looked like he had a cold. I was disappointed that the only did one oncore. The audience did not seem to be into the concert as much. I could be because security was so tight. The seemed to be harassing everyone. They were taking cameras from people, or they ripped the film out of the cameras in front of you they were keeping everyone in their seats. We were lucky, we took a whole role of film.

My husband thinks I'm crazy to see Bon Jovi so often. I keep going with my sisters and my girl friend and keep telling him next time. Hopefully next time will be in 2002.

Anyway.... I can not believe how good they sound in concert. It's as good as the CD. You can tell that the band is giving 150%. Some people don't like the way that Jon plays the audience by throwing his hands out to the side or strutting across the stage, or just standing there with his arms crossed...or he just smiles... But.... it definately works, or at least it works for me. It gives me goosebumps!!! When he tosses the audience a smile or any gesture, all you hear is S-C-R-E-A-M-I-N-G!!!!!! He is definately the show stopper.

I heard a lot of people complaining about the show as I was leaving the stadium. I think how good of a time you have at any concert is what you make of it. This may not have been the best Bon Jovi concert that I have been to but it certainly was worth the anticipation and the experience. I highly recommend that everyone see them. Bon Jovi is a concert that you can take your mom or kids to and not have to worry about the language or suggestive gestures. It's great.
