27 July 2001 - E. Rutherford, NJ, USA Concert Review 29 July 2001
Homebound Train 2001 (Get with the program)

A review by Arthur / arthur_adams1@yahoo.com

The boys were back in town last night kicking off the first of 2 shows at Giants Stadium, and I must admit with this being the 12th time I've seen them(Tonight will be my 13th), they truly delivered. Other than Jon sounding like maybe his vocal chords are a bit strained with this being the end of a very long tour & all, the show was nothing short of spectacular. That being said, I'm going to assume that if you're reading this, you've probably seen the guys numerous times before, and know what they're capable of live, so I'm just going to skip all the positives and cut straight to what I think could've been better, or better still: What could be included in tonight's show. First off, the setlist has become completely predictable. The only surprise at last night's show was "Always". It's great to hear them doing "Raise Your Hands" again, but this was no surprise since I've been following the setlists on this site throughout the tour. What happened to "In These Arms"?? This song is truly a favorite of mine and yet with all the times I've seen "The Joves"(If you will), this song constantly eludes me. What annoys me about this is that it was a staple through the first 3/4 of the tour and has disappeared since Jon lost his voice in Italy. Now instead, we get "Stranger In This Town", which is a great song, and was performed flawlessly, but nonetheless really 'sapped' the show of some of it's strength last night... In my opinion. Furthermore, what happened to "Homebound Train"? The Boys broke this one out on several dates throughout the tour, but it hasn't resurfaced and I've never heard them do this favorite of mine either. The same goes for "Wild Is The Wind", and well, I'll go reaching here, but it would be nice to see them break out "99 In The Shade" for those of us veteran fans that have seen "Wild In The Streets", and "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" done to death. I had a chance to meet the boys backstage at "Sat. Night Live" a few months back, and in talking with David backstage, he informed me that on the 28th(Tonight!), the Boys would be playing "everything"... Well David, I think I(WE) just might have to hold you to that. Have a great last show. Oh and one last thing: As things stand now, there are 4 Bon Jovi songs that the guys seem to play at every single concert, and rightfully so: "Bad Name", "It's My Life", "Wanted" and "Livin'". In my opinion, the list should be upped to 5 songs. No one wants to see a Jove show without "I'll Be There For You"... Take heed.
