13 June 2001 - Huddersfield, England, UK Concert Review 28 June 2002

A review by lynz / lynz@royd.freeserve.co.uk

ive spent my childhood listening to bon jovi but this was not by choice, then when i was about 11 years old i started to appreciate their music and started listening to it because i wanted to. my older sister has been to see them at newcastle and wembley and when we heard about huddersfield she promised to take me.
when the day arrived i was sooo exited. we got the bus and got to the Mcalpine stadium and arrived at 2'0'clock. we queud for hours but it was worth it. when we got through we ran like bats out of hell down to the front, along with about 700 other people all going in the same direction. we finally got to the end. we managed to be positioned 3 rows back from the snake pit barrier. (we tried to get in the pit but it was for members of the fan club only) we waited ages for the support bands to come on. i was really exited about matchbox 20 because i had there album already and knew a few of there songs. me and my freinds were singing the words to there songs and we were getting a few funny looks. i think people wondered how we knew the words!
nothing could prepare me for the reception the crowd gave when the inflatable skyscraper started filling with air. and when the covers went back. when the music for one wild night came on the stadium erupted. when bonjovi walked out of the bottom of the lift me and 40,000 other people jumped and screamed louder than i have ever heard before. my sister was grabbing my hand so hard it still hurts to this day!!! the set was amazing and my throat hurt for days after because id been screaming the lyrics to all the songs i knew. i was a bit dissapointed that they didnt do runaway but suppose they cant do every single song at every gig.
i had the best time of my life and wanted to stay forever. my favorite part was when jon said 'we aint never gonna die' when he was talking about the grim reaper knocking on his door! he said he was sure that he'd have 40,000 beds to hide under.....which i think was true, he can hide under my bed any day!
after the gig it was a squeeze to get out. i bought a t-shirt, a programme, a key ring and 3 posters from one of the stands. we got a taxi home and i think the taxi driver got a bit fed up of us singing on the way home.
for days after i cried because the experience was so good. i didnt want my old life i wanted to live that day over and over.
cant wait to see them again...hopefully they'll be doing another world tour after they bring out there new album in september.
