14 December 2002 - Sydney, Australia Concert Review 24 December 2002
The BON JOVI show

A review by Daniel M / danielmerza@hotmail.com

Well, what can i say. Despite the fact that Rumba was a faliure on all fronts, Bon Jovi were a huge success and proved why they are still one of the best rock bands in the world (i would say the best). It was an incredible day for me personally, as it was my first live bon jovi performance. Im only 18 but im a diehard fan, and dreamed about this day for ages. I waited literally 15 hours that day to see them perform. i was in the front area in the front row and boy did i see them rock. The only highlights prior to their performance were PINK (including duet with Richie), DJ Sammy, Bachelor girl. Nevertheless, once the boys hit the stage, they literally stold to show, as everything in the stadium changed, from lighting to crowd enthusiasm. They opened with BOUNCE, and that set the rhythm. It got the crowd going. BAD NAME was at its usual best with crowd involvement. EVERYDAY and ITS MY LIFE were 2 that the younger generation who werent really BJ fans picked up on and enjoyed. It was sang manificantly. The national anthemn, WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE, was again at its usual best with Richies voice sounding spectacular. MISUNDERSTOOD, the new single, went down really well and one that the crowd embraced. LIVING ON A PRAYER began with accapella and continued to reach its peak. It went off. ILL SLEEP WHEN IM DEAD is another that the crowd got going to with quite a bit of dancing. BAD MEDICINE was ripped into, as Jon proved he was on a man on a mission. Finally, TWIST AND SHOUT was a surprise inclusion, however, concluded the performance with style. Two extra verses were added by Jon as he responded to the crowds plea not to leave. Notably, during the performance, it was patent that Jon and the boys were pissed off with the promoters decision to put the second last and only for 45 minutes. It became obvious when during one of his songs, he sent a direct message to the promoters about how he felt by the use of some well said course language (i.e mother..F%$#@). With all due respect to Shaggy, he has not achieved half of what BJ have achieved and therefore BJ should have been put on last. Despite this, BJ proved they owned RUMBA. Overall, it was a memorable 45 minutes of BJ that was worth every cent. I just hope that they soon reveal the new tour dates for Bounce 2003 with Sydney Australia as one destination.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year

Daniel
