19 July 2003 - Detroit, MI, USA Concert Review 3 August 2003
Rock and Roll Cowboys!

A review by Jean-Paul / courville3@msn.com

I flew out from California to see this show and it was well worth it. Great Show! The Goo Goo Dolls lacked in their presentation, J.R. was more entertaining in between songs than when he played. Sheryl Crow was sexy and sleak...great performance. No Kid Rock Cameo though.
When Bon Jovi took the stage there was an unbeliveable energy that was in the stadium. Richie Sambora came out and he was fired up, swaying back and forth to the crowd. The spotlight hit him and he rocked the introduction of what is Bounce. Jon entered from behind the drum cage , the place erupted! Some suprises in the set..Id Die For You which they played harder with more attitude than the recording. When Richie sang I'll Be There For You it was a crowd pleaser, when he gives the lyric "You say you've cried a Thousand rivers" his voice was very powerful, bluesy, underrated, and clear toned. Not hearing Bad Medicine immediately following Ill Sleep When Im Dead was a surprise because I didn't know when or what was coming next, Medicine came later..which was cool with the female Nurse stripping on the screen...awesome! Since this is the Bounce tour I was shocked to only hear 3 tracks; Bounce, Everyday, and Misunderstood (not a favorite by any means) I was looking forward to hearing Undivided, The Distance,Hook Me Up,and the Right Side of Wrong. I am also surprised that Jon didn't have Sheryl Crow come on stage to do a Bob Seger tune for closing...wouldn't that have been historic. These guys never let you down, they are an asset to the industry, and the industry doesn't really know how much. The Band introductions were great..Jon gave each member lots of credit for their success. High Octane best describes this show!
