Bon Jovi Rocks Greenville, SC

A review by mellyjovi

Bon Jovi - Greenville, SC - Feb 8, 2006

First of all, this is the best concert I ever attended, and I have been to "quite a few" concerts over the past few years. The music was solid, the band was in a great mood. The fans were ready to "rock out." The mood was just right. Jon commented more than once that he was very happy with the audience in Greenville.

The opening band was a local act, called "After August." They sounded very good and they were gratified to be onstage at the Bi Lo Center. The lead singer gave the impression that he really hated to stop. He said he would "Just enjoy this a few minutes" saying he "might not ever get to be back there."

The Bon Jovi show opened with Jon at the back of the arena where he performed "Last Man Standing." There was another venture into the audience (lower levels--halfway back in the arena) about mid-show. These little audience ventures during the Bon Jovi concerts have been occuring all tour; however, it is a VERY nice touch, especially for those fans whose seats are not very close to the stage!

I knew we were in for a great night when the microphone stand started to lean--this means Jon's into his work. I did not notice as much "microphone leaning" in Charlotte last month. But this night---lots of that!! Jon took trips to the catwalks several times throughout the night. Additionally, he *ran* (not walked) over to one of the fan pits beside the stage. It was clear he was enjoying himself. Richie played with lots of emotion the entire night. Some of the guitar solos got extra "umph" this night. I also could not help but notice Dave Bryan's keyboard playing was very animated. Additionally, this is the first time I ever really noticed how David sings his heart out!

The music was a blend of classic hits alongside new material. The song "Complicated" was very good--I think I underrated it before I heard it (saw it) performed live. Additionally, "Novocaine" took on a stronger meaning this particular night. Jon sent it out as a long distance dedication. (No further information given) :) "Novocaine" was sung with much passion as were ALL the other songs performed!

Jon made trips to visit with his bandmates onstage. I was happy to see him visiting with Hugh McDonald. He and Richie Sambora interacted MORE than I ever saw in the mere four times I ever saw them live. During the "intro to Blaze of Glory," Tico Torres gets a very nice drum solo. I have come to admire his amazing stamina (with regard to drumming of course!) This man gets a major workout during EVERY song. The screen displays during the intro and the song "Blaze of Glory" are aesthetically pleasing and quite beautiful at times!

During the acoustic version of "Bed of Roses," Jon was making his way back to the stage. I was in the section beside his little platform where he performed "Blaze." I was given assistance by both my husband and the people beside me (who I did not know) in reaching upward and outward (Stood on chairs). This gave me the ability to reach toward the aisle and as Jon came down the stairs, reaching to give handshakes, high fives, or just a reach toward fans to acknowledge them, I was able for the FIRST time ever to touch his hand. I know this seems a bit silly to some, but it made my night! He saw me up higher than those around me because the others in our row weren't up in the chairs. He saw me reaching for him but unable to quite get there. So he stretched toward me a little more until we touched!

After he returned to the stage, things turned up immediately with "Bad Medicine" and the entire audience was involved. This was THE BEST concert I ever attended. I had commented on this BEFORE the "touch" also!

"The Radio Saved My Life Tonight" sounds better every time I hear the band perform it. I would like to hear it on the *radio* -- it could be a hit for them, I believe.

The encore included a song I had never heard live before (In These Arms). Also, it was nice to hear "Everyday" because I really like to know they still embrace their songs from their most recent tour. As I have written before, the only thing that could have made the show better would have been "Keep the Faith," "Lay Your Hands on Me," and ANYTHING from the "These Days" album! Go Bon Jovi---excellent show! Thank you for a fantastic evening, and come see us again!!
