Nijmegen 11 years later
It was 17:00h as I walked in the golden circle, ah what a great invention it is to sell tickets for the front rows. For the first time in 11 years they were back in the city where I saw them for the first time live.
All day long it was rainy and during Nickelback it looked like it was gonna rain again. This was my 12th show as a band a my 16th show in total counting the solo shows along.
Like in Amsterdam a few months earlier they started with Last mand standing. Nice song but not the great opening song like Lay your hands on me is. To my surprise there was a kind of catwalk in stald so there Jon stood right in front of me.
After playing songs like prayer, HAND, Roses, Every day, Born to be my baby., I'll be there for you (like a duet with Richie), and some other great songs of past and present albums. They walked of the stage and after a few minutes they came back to do the first encore. Which contained bells of freedom and WDOA among others. Then the band came back again and closed down with Faith. This time there was no fire works.
Luckily there was no thunderstorm, unlike 11 years ago, when they had to stop the show due to Thunder and lightning. So 11 years after the I saw them for the first time on the same grounds they played not great but descent. One could see that they were enjoying there time on stage and with bobby Bandiera (from Southside Johnny) backing up Richie as a rythm guitarist. It was nice to see Richie was able to play more like a lead guitarist then in the previous tours.
One more note: In the previous concerts the band played my favourite Dry County, unfortunately they didnot in Nijmegen, I only hope to hear that song one more time live again. And I know I don't speak for my self alone. |
