4 June 2006 - Manchester, UK Concert Review 6 June 2006
Highs and Lows

A review by Lee

I grew up with 'Slippery When Wet' and was overjoyed to hear tracks like 'Raise Your Hands' and 'I'd Die For You' included in the set (although whoever tuned up Jon's guitar for the latter wanted shooting..... completely out of tune... god forbid it would be Jon playing the wrong notes !!) Anyways, the gig was, as usual, awesome with a good mixture of old, not so old, and new in there. And anyone who can give 2.5 hours of performance has got to be classed as god-like (this was the high). I was positioned in the seating area about half way back and the sound quality was a bit dubious for (this was the low). A bit 'mushy' with lead vocals and lead guitar at times being a little too low in the mix. This was probably due to the stadium though :0(

I'm not sure if it was just me, but I get the impression that, although the quality of performance is still there, the passion and desire from the band may be subsiding a little (apologies to Jon & co. if this is not the case). This may have come from the rumours that have arisen about this being the bands last tour.... who knows ! Opening with 'Last Man Standing' was OK in my book, but listen to the lyrics......

I sincerely hope that Jovi continue for the next decade and produce the quality of songs that we have come to expect from them (and receive on a regular basis), but I also hope that the next tour will be more like the 'old days' and the need for extra guitar players and keyboard players on stage is not needed .....

Don't get me wrong, the gig was SO worth the cash (just ask my 5 year old who loved his first Jovi gig !) I went home without a voice-box from over singing :0) Along with Def Leppard, Bon Jovi have to be the classic 'Legends of their time' and I truely hope they go out on a high.... whenever that will be.

Gig marking 8/10 in my opinion.
