11 June 2006 - Milton Keynes, UK Concert Review 12 June 2006
Who needs Wembley?

A review by james

What a show!!! This was my second Jovi gig and it was much better than last time (which was Wembley in 2000!). This was much better because your much closer at the back of the bowl than if your at the back at Wembley.

We got there at about 12 so we ate lunch by the lake, we then aited in the queue for about one and a half hours until about 2:10 (the gates opened 20 minutes early i think) but had to wait 3 hours for the music to start

The supports were good. Spin were good to get kicked off but you cant beat Nickelback to support Jovi. They played 4 off Silver Side Up and 2 off The Long Road. Obviously ending with everyone singing to How You Remind Me.

Then, after being at the place for nearly 8 hours Bon Jovi finally came on. I was surprised at the start, waiting for Last Man Standing. The screen turned on to the red smirk (cue cheers), then Tico appeared behind the drums (more cheers) and started a little intro, then the rest of the band except Jon came on with richie in a british policeman hat (even more cheers) and finally Jon came on with a guitar and the place erupted.
As i expected Last Man Standing, i was surprised to hear the kick off with Rockin' in the free world which led into You give love a bad name. Great intro.
Then came Wild in the streets and Captain Crash.
In Cpt. Crash, jon said Crash went over to beat up the Multiplex crew (good on him!) and that Bon Jovi would play at Wembley even if it means Jon has to build it!!
The entire set was brilliant with some great live songs like Sleep When Im Dead, Its My Life, In These Arms, Always(bad version though), Who Says you cant go home, Have a Nice Day and Runaway (the proper fast version unlike the horrible slow one on the Crush DVD) but no Someday I'll be Saturday Night or Lay Your hands on me which was a shame.
Richie sang I'll be there for you again, but i think David Bryan is a much better singer and should have sung it instead.
The most fun songs were Bad Medicine because of the way they put shout in the middle making the entire bowl jump around and Raise your hands, if you evr go or were there you'll understand when you see 130,000 hands up in the air!
They ended the main set with Livin' on a prayer which is much better at the end than at the beginning.

The encore was brilliant, especially because they put These Days in it, which i think is one of their best ever songs. A bit disappointed they didnt play dry county but there you go.
I cant remember the first encore song but it led into Wanted which led into the brilliant These Days.
They went to leave the stage but we all forced them back so they played Last Man Standing (at last!!) and Keep the Faith.
Overall a brilliant gig and was better at Milton Keynes than if it was at Wembley as Wembley would have been too big. But a tip if you ever go to the MK Bowl - be prepared to wait ages in the car park as we waited so long i helped push a car up the car park bank, have a second burger and even got to see the band get out of there limos into the helicopters, although i only say Hugh McDonald and Tico but hey, there band members and Ticos the coolest drummer around.

Just one thing bad, whats the deal with getting rid of the pipe in Everyday and Bounce? They changed it to a wierd techno keyboard sound which completely mucked up the songs and the original Always is much better than the new version.

Rating 10/10 How long till the next tour??
