Gutted
I've been to see BJ 5 times before, including Dublin a few weeks ago and have been blown away by the enthusiasm, quality of playing and crowd atmosphere every time. Hull was, in comparison, poor to say the least.
After waiting for 4 hours in almost constant rain we were soaked, but the rain stopped almost as soon as BJ hit the stage. The lights soon warmed us up and I thought we would be in for yet another fantastic night with the band. Wrong.
Sure, the quality was there but enthusiasm and atmosphere were non-existent. Jon looked tired, he hardly spoke to the crowd and it was just one song into another into another. Almost from the first song I thought something was wrong; I feel for them after a hard tour but this really felt like a case of "bang all the songs out then go home quick".
At one stage two women got to Jon for a quick kiss and he jokingly said "excuse me, I'm working". This was a bad day at the office.
On a positive note the sound, lights and musicianship were all quality. I still believe they're the best live band I've ever seen and will always be a fan but ultimately I left Hull feeling very let down.
