Off Stage 10:40

A very tight show considering it was the first show in three months. The band entered the stage to Woke up This Morning, otherwise known as the Soprano's song. Upon entering the stage, after being filmed making their way from the dressing room, the band stood at Daves Key's a la the elevator opening from last years American tour. Shout was particularly tight tonight. The TV broadcast will show Jon's voice in fine form. Sleep has finally lost all of the hupla, although some covers in the breakdown would have been good. (And what the hell happened to Brown Sugar???!) The main set contained no surprises, although the encores brought about a number of premieres. Good Times had been played with Jimmy Barnes in Sydney '97, but tonight it was a bit of a train wreck. Jon was struggling singing wise, contemplating between singing the high parts or the low parts. Ride the night away was less of a train wreck, but looked like it was going to go on forever. Jon seemed a little strange during the encores. He had gone from stadium Jon to bar band Jon, and was looking a little perplexed by the transition.

Some guitar troubles for Jon before Tequila, but none the less Jon got moving. Jimmy Barnes' Sax player provided the horns, but the song was basically only cranking for one minute. Twist and Shout had the desired effect, with Jon returning a la Bruce Springsteen (Ramrod) style for one more chorus.

Overall a great show, but it was way too short, hopefully due to the fact that this was a "festival" style bill.

But still, a short Bon Jovi show is like short sex. It's still a Bon Jovi show.
