4 June 2008 - Vienna, Austria Concert Review 5 June 2008

A review by Matthias

Although it was still a great show and I believe we heard some of the best live versions of the old hits ever, I was a bit disappointed. Mostly because the concert was by BJ means very short (just slightly over 2 hours, only one encore) although the audience couldn't rock more.

The choice of the venue was a disaster. The stadium was formerly used as a horse racing arena, and this was the first big concert taking place there ... upon arriving, you couldn't find your entrance without walking around the whole area through the mud, upon departing you couldn't find your bus without asking every single bus driver where he was going, the security checks were very unorganized and took forever, even plastic bottles of water were confiscated (WHY???) and after the concert it took forever for our bus to depart because there is only one small road leading from the highway to the venue which was hopelessly congested.

I can't remember all of the setlist - Openers where Lost Highway, Born to be my Baby and Bad Name. Final song was Dead or Alive (and I couldn't believe they didn't come back after this). The classics which I've never before heard being played that good included Prayer, Faith, In these arms, Blaze of Glory, It's my life, Have a nice day (well, the latter is probably too new to be a classic, but it sure rocks stadiums). Sleep when I'm dead with some interesting cover versions, Bad Medicine w/ Shout ... In my opinion they could finally drop Captain Crash ... I got the Girl was certainly a surprise, although I consider it to be the weakest song of a weak album :) ... I was missing I Love This Town because there was some advertising beforehand to send in video material of your home town which should be played on the videowall during this song, or whatever.
