10 May 2001 - Raleigh, NC, USA Concert Review 12 May 2001
Awesome show... one minor downer

A review by Jon Parrish / hogtownhoo@webtv.net

Quite a treat to see the band again. I'm happy that Jon gets alot of the attention, but i wish the rest of the band got the credit they deserve. There isn't a weak link anywhere. Bon Jovi fans know this but i wish everyone else did. Everyone asks me "How was he?" It's they, the band, the group. Anyway, it was quite a night. The first 2 hours just flew by. Great song after great song, presented at a frantic pace. This is just a great rock and roll good time band. The setlist, prior to the encores was fantastic. I'm not a big fan of "In These Arms", but otherwise i did not have a complaint. The setlist was predictable, but fun nonetheless. The crowd was into it, and the band seemed to be in good spirits. The only downer for me was the first encore. "Say it isn't So" and "I Got the Girl" are decent songs on the CD, but they are not good live songs. Plus, these two have been played repeatedly recently, and i can't imagine the reaction has been very positive. I could live with one or the other, but certainly not both. Next 100 Years would have been great here. That is the best live song on the CD IMHO. On the brighter side, the highlight for me was the crowd singing the entire first part of Wanted. What a moment that was. Bon Jovi has been my favorite since 1985. I have always thought the measure of this band was in their concerts. This night did nothing to disprove this in my eyes. The fact that they don't tour as often makes each show more special, as you can't ever be sure there will be another one. I've heard nothing to the contrary, but you never know. The band has never sounded better. I would give them a solid B for this performance. It would have been an A but the setlist has become predictable, and i already discussed the first encore. With any luck, i hope we can make it to at least one more before the summer is over. Great job guys.....Jon ParrishForest VA
