31 May 2001 - Stockholm, Sweden Concert Review 1 June 2001
One wild night started cold, but got HOT!!!

A review by The U-man

OK, let's start off with the support acts, a swedish gal named Salene and a brittpopper named Mel C. Hmmm....how the hell could BJ management actually approve having these ladies as support acts?? I think they kind of sucked... Especially Melanie C... Instead they should have had a more party-friendly band as Barenaked Ladies...

The weather changed from a rainy, cold evening to a less cold, sunny evening just as Jon and the guys entered the stage. The cool intro on the TV screens was great, the guys wandering in hallways and entering an elevator. Doesn't sound so cool, but it's a hundred times better live, trust me! :)

The stage was build to look like the top of Empire State Building, but all the lights and fireworks wasn't really great until the end of the show, due to the not so dark swedish evenings... In the land of the midnight sun, it's hard to have cool light effects before 22:00....

One other thing I noticed, that quite a lot of the songs was played a bit slower then recorded. Not much, but a bit, that made the impression of the performance not so rock'n'roll as I have seen earlier.

In the beginning there where a really up-tempo on the show but after about an hour, the tempo got slower with a few slow tunes, but then later at the end it really rocked!

After a great performance, the guys made three encours! The whole show lasted about 2 hours, great!!

A lot of chicks (I guess some winners from a NRJ (radio station) contest) got up on stage and a few of them danced, kissed and touched him (you know where!)

All together, the performance wasn't exactly world class all the way, but at least 80% of the show was super!

I didn't hear so much singing from the public as I wanted, I think that the PA system drowned out the singing...The volym was quite high, but that's the way things have to be in a rock'n'roll consert!!! Loud!!

I hope that the band will refrase the statement the made about the swedish audience before the show in the papers... BJ said that they thought that the swedes are illojal when it comes to buying records/tickets... I think that we proved them wrong last night, why did they else have to do three encours?? But I'm not so impressed with the not so big audience...only 18 000 souls where there. The Olympic Stadium can take at least 30 000 people...

Anyway, me and my friends had a great night, or should I say one wild night... :)
