13 June 2001 - Huddersfield, England, UK Concert Review 15 June 2001
Huddersfield

A review by Phil Lynott / Lizzy@angliat.free-online.co.uk

My first time at a Bon Jovi concert and I have to say I came away a little disappointed. My main grouse was the sound which I thought was very poor. There just wasn’t enough volume and the mix was terrrible. Tico’s drum sound was muted to say the least and as for his cymbals well he may just as well not have had them mic’d for the amount of punch they carried. Sambora’s guitar was completely lost by the vocals and even in the guitar breaks he was barely audible.

During the first hour of the concert we were stood stage right about 8 rows from the “second” front barrier We then decided to see if the sound was any better stage left so we walked around and stood in the main stand in front of the boxes about half way back. The sound did improve slightly but not greatly.

I thought the performance of the group was excellent and you can’t fault their effort. The atmosphere was good and looking down from the stand to see tens of thousands of people clapping and singing in unison was a joy. The screens were the best I have ever seen. The clarity of the picture was perfect. The fireworks worked very well. All in all a very slick show let down by the poor sound.
