17 June 2001 - Cardiff, Wales, UK Concert Review 19 June 2001
WOW

A review by Keith / Keith.Jones8@ntlworld.com

It seems like this concert was the first for quite a few people and im no exception!!! I arrived in Cardiff about 1:30pm with my girlfriend (The big Jovi fan :) ) and her sister and boyfriend. Finding we had time to kill we went into the centre of cardiff for a bite to eat without becoming a tourist promo for Cardiff i'll just say that it is a fantastic city and a perfect venue.

After the time had been killed :) we made our way into the stadium. The entrance and organisation was excellant the only dissappointment was the lack of security searches after we had already left our food etc in the car!!!. Once we had found our way into the stadium itself we climbed the 5 or 6 flights of stairs onto the TOP tier!!! This was where disappointment set in. The top tier is very high and very steep. We all felt that we would be clinging to our seats all night worrying about falling off!!! So we decided to go down onto the floor.

Once we had made our way down we felt our disappointment disappear. As to our surprise the floor had chairs all around unreserved so we quickly snatched some prime seats and began the wait.....

The first support band Delerious was surprisingly good and I felt that some fans were a little unappreciatuve with their attitudes towards them (took no notice)

Matchbox 20 were the next and I have to say that as this was my first ever concert I am surprised what standard support bands are. They used all the stage well, Played very well and really did get the crowd going (those who bothered to listen!!)

Then the Main ACT..

Their entrance was excellant now I know what that cheesy music at the start of One Wild Night is all about. Jons energy was incredible he never stopped jumping around running from one end of the stage to the other.

The music was superb with a great selection of old and new songs to which my girlfriend was delighted. The best part of the show for me was when the encores began. Every time they left the stage all the crowd (including myself) began cheering and shouting untill they were forced to show their faces again and again and again :)

On the third encore a mad chappy some how got on to the stage ran up to the mic waving a blow up guitar and shouted something like hello everyone and ran back off to which Jon said who was that NUTTY guy as he laughed.

That then led to them deciding to do one more song (thanks to that dude whoever you are :) ) Never say goodbye which fitted in quite well :) and then it all finished :(

Cardiff stadium is a fantastic venue and having the roof closed was a good choice because the acoustics were fantastic my only complaint would be that the reserved seats on the top tier were CRAP!! and the concert would have been a let down if we had stayed up there next time I wont be paying for a seat i'll be on the floor dancing with the rest of em!! :)

ROCK ON .
