My complaints are similar:
- The production is dreadful, and I believe that the songs could've been less awful with a right producer.
- Lyrics are tired, recycled, meaningless, and amateur at best on most songs.

The band has been stagnant for a while, I think since like 2002 or so, but they still had some decent tunes on every record. Not this one tho, not in the standard format. If this thing could be made better, it would be by replacing some of the tracks with any of the 6-7 bonus tracks they released elsewhere. It would still be pop but I think it would be better. Bon Jovi have constantly omitted better songs off their records and released them as bonus tracks.

Jon wants to "evolve" and I commend that, but I don't think he's succeeded in that, he's just watered down, that's all. The entire music industry has stagnated in the digital age and there is little reward for being original or standing out. It doesn't matter if you try to fit in or stand out, the reception will be the same. That's why working with better producers, creating a proper, well-written rock record, full of guitars and whatever else this band was known for, would STILL give him a #1 record, and it would STILL drop off the charts in 2 weeks. He could put out an album of static and it would still sell. People buy Bon Jovi records because of the name printed on them, so why not sell something worth buying. The difference would be that the album wouldn't be forgotten so quickly.

I no longer consider them a rock band, simple as that, not even pop-rock. They HAD a few rock songs here and there (and most likely thanks to RS's input), but as of this record that's gone away.

If you not consider them as rock band and even pop-rock,what are they for you and what is rock for you?
As I said before,bands like U2,Coldplay,The Police,Muse,REM,Dire Straits,Stones and even Queen are more pop sound wise than Jovi but they are consider as rock bands so I ask you what is rock for you?
It is very strange here on forum that many of you members are calling Jovi pop and at the same time some of the bands that I mention are rock and even Springsteen is rock and Jovi are not

Really? I can't not see it now.

Also, I freaking love bubblegum pop/rock. Some new bands are doing it really, really well like The 1975 and even The Trews newest single goes in that direction.

Also, do you not like Slippery or NJ? Half the songs on both are "bubblegum pop" like lay your hands on me, bad name, 99 in the shade, Bad Medicine, Raise your hands, etc etc.

I love that genre, but not necessarily this song. It was an attempt that kinda didn't work.

And there's some really great tracks on here. Sure theres one or two "average" tracks, but even These Days and Keep The Faith had those.

I Will Drive You Home, Scars, Devils In The Temple and Living With The Ghost are all exceptional songs. Hail To The King is very good too.

Theres still songs that are growing on me too.

I agree with you Andrew. Lyrically, some of the songs like LWTG, Devil's, Scars, AHTG all really strong. And even the okay songs for me, Reunion and NYD, are ones I don't skip. This is the first cd of theirs in a long time I still play straight through and I don't do that with ANY of the older releases.

Whenever I put this one on I'm actually surprised at how fast the cd just goes. It's like "whoa, I'm on Reunion already?!" and I basically don't even notice it. But I do get why some people don't like it. I too wish the songs sounded stronger and there was more of a guitar feel to them because (And I know I've mentioned this before) besides the guitar being more at the front of the mix that WAN, there is just WAY too much of those single string hitting throughout the chorus or verse that doesn't go anywhere, don't know why Shanks decided to go this way but it's really repetitive and gets a bit annoying at times....

Yep, that's one of my major complaints with this album as well. I like many of the songs and there are some strong lyrics like LWTG, but the guitar work is just so uninspired. Two years ago I would've just said that Shanks isn't capable of more, but after having heard some of the work on BB (including the outro solo on Fingerprints) I kind of feel that a lot of potential has been wasted here.

I can see why you don't like the album. I see its flaws... at the same time I'm completely mesmerized by it. I just can't put my finger on it. It feels different, and a lot different to WAN which I could never fully embrace.

It feels more honest in a way, and I don't even mind the production this time (and I had issues with the production with almost EVERY album since "Crush"). Not that it's perfect, not that I'd wish them to change the producer, but somehow it all works for what it is. I like even the poppy songs with the recycled lyrics, especially "Knockout" is such a fun track. Somehow they work on this album. I would've never thought I would love a BJ album that much anymore.

Very nicely said. And I agree with Knockout. As cheesy as it is, I really like it.

I don't hate the album, but it ranks toward the bottom for me. It's an improvement over What About Now (the first album of theirs that I just flat-out didn't care for) but none of the "album" tracks really stand out for me.

Phil X is wasted on the album (as in not utilized enough) which is a missed opportunity to inject the band with a much needed rock edge. Hence why I don't miss Richie on this album.

Some positives though, it does sound like a genuine effort. Jon sounds genuinely into it and "I Will Drive You Home" is one of the best songs by the band in quite some time. It's got a "You Can't Lose at Love" vibe to it (A Crush B-Side that has never won me over) and sounds like it was pulled out of the Destination Anywhere/Sex Sells/Crush sessions.

Truth be told, I've only played the album a few times in the car and haven't really given it the attention an album deserves but I will revisit it soon.

I don't know if anyone would care about this or not since it seems half of the people here are not thrilled with THINFS, I just got a copy of People magazine's year in review, and ranked the top ten best in music of 2016, Bon Jovi and THINFS is ranked #2 for the year, Here is the quote "The 80's rock icons went back to basics on their 14th album, the first since guitarist Richie Sambora's exit. House is constructed from classic Bon Jovi materials, blue collar inspiration and anthemic choruses, handcrafted for stadium sing alongs. This music was built to last" This is what People magazine described Bon Jovi for 2016. But probably alot of you guys here wouldn't care, just thought I share with you, but you probably will still think the album is not up to par with your "standards",oh well, SMH.

I workout to this album daily and love it... Best Post 2000 album hands down...

I'm not a musician, just someone who enjoys catchy tunes... Guitars mean nothing to me, I'm not that involved with it lyrically, & I prefer the live version which is primarily what I listen to but can still appreciate the studio version...

I listen to it as a stand alone album and don't compare it to anything else... I like what I like and really don't give a shit what other people think... You can all hate it but as long as I like it, that's all I care about...
