Default Sizzurp Taken off Market - HipHop World Grinds to Halt

Quote:
TMZ: 2 Chainz is blaming Justin Bieber for getting his codeine cough syrup of choice yanked off shelves...

The rapper...openly talked about his "lean" habit, and bemoaned the fact his favorite brand, Actavis, is no longer for sale...Chainz thinks Bieber, and a few others, are responsible for the drug's demise..
It was originally called "Delta Momma"

Then it was called "Delta Lady"

Now it's called "Sizzurp"

Quote:
Today.com (1/2014): ...Doctors are warning that..."lean" or "purple drank," which is made by combining soda, candy and "sizzurp" -- prescription cough syrup with codeine in it -- provide(s) an instant, euphoric high...(which) can be deadly.

...Superstar rapper Lil Wayne, who once praised the cocktail, was hospitalized...after reportedly overdosing...Sizzurp also was attributed in the deaths of rappers Pimp C in 2007 and DJ Screw in 2000...(But) there is no shortage of songs and videos glorifying sizzurp use...
Then came the beginning of the end...
Quote:
TMZ (4/2014): (T)he high-end cough syrup that's become the lean of choice for Justin Bieber, Soulja Boy, and MANY other rap figures has officially been taken off the market -- all because of its reputation as a widely abused drug.

A rep for Actavis -- famous for the highly-refined cough syrup -- tells TMZ, "Given recent media attention...(that) has glamorized the unlawful and dangerous use of the product...Actavis has made the bold and unprecedented decision to cease all production and sales of its Promethazine Codeine product..."

Before Actavis pulled the plug...the street value of a pint bottle hovered around $800...(B)ut...rappers are now offering insane sums to buy up whatever's left. We're told one prominent rapper has already offered his dealer up to $100,000 to get whatever he can...
Quote:
TMZ: ...You can either get it with a prescription or get it somewhere outside the U.S. We're told Bieber does the latter -- he has a connection that secures it in another country.
Which solves a huge mystery for me: I knew Bieber didn't earn the respect of American hiphoppers with his hiphop skills!

My lone experience with codeine was via a dentist who made a point of warning me not to take it until I got home. An instant, euphoric high? After it made me feel like my joints were melting, it instantly put me to sleep, LOL!

But seriously, folks, as the supply of Activis sizzurp trickles to nothing, what can the hiphop world look forward to?
Quote:
Healthline: If you’ve taken codeine for a long time, several withdrawal symptoms can occur when you stop...The early phase occurs within a few hours of your last dose. Later, other symptoms occur as your body readjusts to life without codeine.

Early symptoms of withdrawal include:
  • agitation and anxiety
  • insomnia
  • an increased amount of tears
  • runny nose
  • sweating
  • yawning
  • muscle aches
Later symptoms include:
  • diarrhea
  • stomach cramps
  • dilated pupils
  • nausea and vomiting
  • goose bumps
Agitation, anxiety, and insomnia -- the perfect combination for a music genre that loves brandishing guns and holding grudges!

Quote:
Some people choose to remain dependent on codeine...(or) try stronger, more addictive opiates...rather than go through withdrawal...

The use of other less addictive opiates can reduce some of the withdrawal symptoms. Buprenophine (Suboxone, Subutex)...can be used for codeine detoxification...
Buprenophine? That name rings a bell.
Quote:
TMZ: Prince's people called Dr. Howard Kornfeld...in Marin County, California...the day before the singer died, saying they believed he was on the verge of dying from drugs...(T)he doctor said it would be 2 days before he could get there...(He) sent his son, Andrew, who worked at their facility...Andrew...was at Prince's home the day he died...(and) called 911 after the staff found Prince unconscious...

Andrew did not supply Prince with any drugs, although he did have synthetic opiates in his backpack. The drug is called buprenorphine...for pain management and to wean people off actual opiates...
Small world. And I shudder to think of how the syrup is being thinned ("cut" or "stepped on" for you geriatric junkies) as the supply of "the good stuff" dwindles...

AllHipHop.com: ...Rumors surfaced over the weekend that...rapper (Chief Keef) had to be hospitalized for a lean overdose.

Whether the rumor was true or not, Keef let his followers know that nothing was going to stop him from drinking his beverage of choice...(H)e...show(s) you (on Instagram) that he didn’t overdose by drinking more lean:
Just poured 13 ounces of the Hardt In The Sprite. Still Got Four Pints (2 liters) Left!
"Hardt" is short for Wockhardt, the pharmaceutical company that has stepped into Activis' shoes in manufacturing the cough syrup. But they don't make it the way Activis did, so you have take more of it -- both legitimate patients and addicts alike. Two ounces (60mL) of Activis was standard for lean. If he has to use thirteen ounces (384mL) of Hardt at a time, Keef's supply won't last out the week. So is his Instagram really meant to brag, or to put out feelers for a supplier?

TMZ: Justin Bieber...just posted an APB saying he doesn't owe his fans...a duty to stand there while they photograph him...

"I feel like a zoo animal, and I wanna be able to keep my sanity." Justin says people try badgering him into taking photos (by) saying, "But I bought ur album...You got what you paid for -- AN ALBUM! It doesn't say in fine print whenever you see me you also get a photo."

Bieber seems to be in crisis -- he was walking around in Boston shoeless Monday, playing with squirrels in a park. People were swarming him in the park, and he couldn't handle it.
If HE'S not getting the "good" sizzurp anymore, NOBODY is...

UPDATES: Beiber climbed a tree in Boston Common the next day...and its been announced that Kanye West has hired his manager!

Lil Wayne 'in stable condition and good spirits' after seizures, emergency landings
The Omaha (Nebraska USA) Airport Authority confirmed...that a jet traveling from Milwaukee (Wisconsin), where Wayne had a concert...made an emergency landing...A passenger refused medical treatment. The jet refueled and departed, but made another emergency landing...at which point the passenger was taken to a local hospital...

(I)n October 2012, Wayne made two emergency landings due to health issues, including a seizure...(He) suffered a seizure in 2013 while on the set of a Nicki Minaj video...(after which) Wayne said he has epilepsy and has “had a bunch of seizures; y’all just never hear about them.”

TMZ: ...(A)ccording to witnesses close to the rapper...Weezy was cruising around with five 16-oz bottles of Promethazine/Codeine syrup during his club appearance in Milwaukee over the weekend...We're told...Wayne downed 3 bottles just by himself...(and) continued sipping during the after-party...
Wayne has since been released from the hospital. Well, as long as he has a legal prescription...

TMZ: ...Law enforcement sources tell us Los Angeles Police Department...has held meetings with cops to go over the basics when it comes to codeine. We're told they've been briefed on how users mix the syrup, how it looks, smells and most important...to be on the lookout for double cups.

The brass insisted it has nothing to do with this weekend's BET Awards show, which will draw scores of rappers. They say cops will not specially hunt for double cups, but officers will arrest anyone if they happen to notice during normal patrol.
But if they'd really learned the basics, they'd know that the only significance of the double cups is to keep it cold a little longer!
