Let's rate: Labor Of Love
Let's keep the tradition going.
My first impression - I don't love it, but I like it. Which is more than I could've said about the first two tracks. The guitar melody seemed to borrow from Wicked Game and the overall mood resemble darker 90s stuff, especially DA. Remember when Jon said during the Facebook chat that fans who liked Have A Nice Day and These Days albums will like THINFS too? The first two songs (especially the title track borrowed a lot from HAND obviously; but this one seem to be one of the These Days-esque ones based on Jon's categorization. His vocals are OK; not great, quite doctored, but that's nothing new at this point. I wish the chorus was a bit catchier, but for a song like this, it's OK, I'm sure it's going to stick in my head once listening to the whole album. It's one of those you need to pay a bit more attention when you listen to, which is good. 7/10 |
Given it an 8, strongest for me of the 3 we've had so far, although I have grown more fond of the other 2 as well over time.

I'm going to wait until tomorrow when I can listen to it in good quality before I render a verdict.

Wish the last 40 seconds were better |
I gave it a 7 . Love the intro and verses . Dont love the chorus .... sorta doesnt seem to fit ....

After 3 listens, I'm hooked. That moody guitar line will be stuck in my head all day. I think it's one of the best "ballad"-y songs they've done in a long, long time (discounting Teardrop). I'm giving it an 8 - I like every bit as much as the title track. I think I'll be listening to this one a lot leading up to the album release.

6/10
It's pleasant enough. |
Absolutely love it!! This is a song right down my ally!! Atmospheric, moody, I love the soaring vocals. A solid 9 for me!!

About a 7 for me at the moment
|
7 for me. As I mentioned on the main album thread, it really misses Richie's harmonies, which would bring it up a mark or two.
