Fun for Charles at fashion bash

PRINCE Charles had a diamond evening last night, surrounded by beauties at a major fashion show.

The prince sat next to Catherine Zeta Jones and opposite Liz Hurley at the British party of the year. Both actresses wore pink Versace dresses for Donatella Versace's first UK fashion premiere.

As Charles, 50, escorted the top fashion designer into the pounds 250,000 event he told reporters: "I am looking forward to this very much before accompanying Donatella into the catwalk show."

The bash, with the theme Diamonds Are Forever, raised money for three charities, including the prince's Foundation for Architecture and the Urban Environment.

Selected guests sported an amazing 5,000 carats of diamonds worth between pounds 18million and pounds 31million at the pounds 500-a-head show.

Donatella said: "It is incredibly exciting for me to present my collection for the first time in the UK and to crown my clothes with spectacularwhile cause." Charles tapped his feet and clapped throughout the one-hour catwalk show, clearly enjoying himself.

He chatted with the seven guests at his table, including Liz's boyfriend, Hugh Grant.

The evening kicked off with a live performance by Bon Jovi, whose music accompanied the show.

And Charles was also treated to a raunchy taped version of The Artist's - Prince -You Sexy Mother.

Donatella said: "When we were planning this the Prince of Wales asked me what music I liked.

"He expected classical but I've no doubt he will enjoy rock and roll."

The glittering 600-strong guest list included 007 star Pierce Brosnan and his girlfriend Keely Shaye-Smith and Ivana Trump.

Supermodel Jodie Kidd and her sister Jemma arrived together wearing black sequinned gowns.

The show was held in a marquee at Syon House - the west London home of the Duke of Northumberland. The other charities to benefit were the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, and Gilda's Club which helps cancer sufferers.

The bash was dedicated to fashion legend Liz Tilberis - a close friend of Princess Diana - who died of cancer this year.
