Hootie And The Blowfish's Fifth Annual Golf Tournament Slated For April
Hootie and the Blowfish will once again be teeing off for charity when the band hosts the Hootie and the Blowfish Fifth Annual Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am golf tournament in April. Keeping in the spirit of rocks and jocks meeting on the field for the good of humanity (or, in this case, the up- and- coming Tiger Woodses of the world), Hootie will be joined on the greens by Bon Jovi keyboardist David Bryan, NFL bad boys Bryan Cox of the New York Jets and Wesley Walls of the Carolina Panthers, PGA Tour members John Daly, David Duval, Peter Jacobson, Ernie Els, Gary McCord, and Jay Haas, and tennis players Luke Jensen and Murphy Jensen. Other musicians who have been extended an invitation to the event, but are not confirmed at press time, include R.E.M.'s Mike Mills, Matchbox 20's Rob Thomas, Duncan Sheik, Goo Goo Dolls' Mike Malinin, and Jimmy Buffett. All proceeds from the event, which will take place April 12 in Blythewood, S.C., will go to South Carolina Junior Golf Association and the National Minority Junior Gold Association. They are hoping to raise $1 million this year. In addition to the tournament, the weekend-long event will also include a live and silent auction, as well as a long drive contest (the golf equivalent of the slam dunk contest). Notable items up for grabs at the auction include an autographed bat and ball each from Cal Ripken, Jr. and Sandy Koufax and a '99 Cadillac Seville.
