It isn't exactly correct to say that Bon Jovi will be the first band to perform at Newark's Prudential Center when the arena opens in October.
The group will headline the are na's inaugural 10-concert run. But the shows will have opening acts, and another Jersey band, My Chemical Romance, will actually take the stage first at the first concert, Oct. 25.
My Chemical Romance, a Goth- and punk-influenced band whose members hail from Belleville and Kearny, will also open on Oct. 26.
The country duo Big & Rich will join Bon Jovi on Oct. 28 and 30, while another country artist, Gret chen Wilson, is on the bill Nov. 1 and 3.
Daughtry, the mainstream-rock band led by Chris Daughtry of "American Idol" fame, does the honors on Nov. 4 and 7, while pop- punk group the All-American Rejects fills the final two opening slots, Nov. 9 and 10.
At press time, tickets, priced from $49.50 to $303, were still available for all shows through Ticketmaster; call (201) 507-8900 or click to ticketmaster.com.
Sometimes opening bands at rock shows can be anonymous --newcomers looking to perform for bigger crowds than they would be able to draw on their own. But that isn't the case here. All five openers have had major hits, and command a substantial amount of drawing power.
