Following the Jan. 31 airing of the 52nd Grammy Awards, music merchandisers are saying that tracks by some of the ceremony’s winners and performers are experiencing a pick-up in sales. Merchants like iTunes and Amazing -- which were processing orders while the Grammys aired -- are reporting sales increases in the range of 8,000 units to almost 25,000 units.
Lady Antebellum, Pink, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Kings of Leon, the Black Eyed Peas, Zac Brown Band and Dave Matthews Band were among those benefiting the most in sales increases from Saturday to Sunday, according to retailers, label sales and distribution executives.
Merchandisers say that Lady Antebellum’s new album, “Need You Now” (released on Jan. 26), appears to be the big winner of the evening, with the track jumping to the top of the iTunes song chart and No. 3 on the Amazon MP3 chart, where Beyonce’s “I Am...Sasha Fierce” held the top spot.
Bon Jovi played three tracks on lat night’s Grammy Awards, one of which was voted on by viewers. And if that poll is any indication, “Livin’ On A Prayer” could score the big uptick in digital downloads for that artist.
