Lowering temperatures were not enough to dissuade hundreds of area Democrats from gathering on Hubbard Park to encourage early voting, see some keynote speakers and listen to some acoustic music by Jon Bon Jovi.

Close to 700 people descended upon the University of Iowa park, some more bundled up than others for the chilly October afternoon, as officials stumped for President Barack Obama.

Even though Friday’s event was hosted by Obama for America, Bon Jovi said he couldn’t tell attendees how they should cast their ballots but encouraged every eligible voter on the park to hit the polls.

“You can’t just sit around these days and say you’re going to sit this one out, you cant say to yourself that your going to hope for change. The truth is nobody can just sit around hoping and expect anything to happen,” Bon Jovi said to the cheering crowd after playing a few songs. “I’m not even here to tell you who to vote for. You know who I’m going to vote for but I’m not here to influence your vote. The idea is quite simple, we are the change we want to be.”
