Jon Bon Jovi has been awarded an honorary doctorate by a university based in his hometown, New Jersey, according to ananova.com.
Monmouth University honoured the rock star for his success as an entertainer and his humanitarian work. At the ceremony, Bon Jovi told students not to be in awe of people from supposedly bigger schools. He added: "Remember we're from Jersey. We've been underdogs all our lives."
Bon Jovi's live album 'One Wild Night Live 1981 - 2001' album is currently Number Two in this week's midweek album charts.
And in a seperate ceremony Steely Dan's Walter Becker and Donald Fagen (pictured above) received honorary Doctor of Music degrees from Boston's Berklee College of Music, according to steelydan.com.
Both Becker and Fagen, who attended Berklee in 1966, were present at Berklee's commencement ceremony on May 12.
