SALT LAKE CITY (Reuters) - In a blaze of fireworks and rock 'n' roll, Salt Lake City bid an explosive farewell to the XIXth Winter Olympics (news - web sites) on Sunday.
After the dignified opening to the 17-day Games, overshadowed by the September 11 attacks, the closing ceremony was a celebration allowing the 2,500 athletes from 78 countries to let their hair down before heading home.
Boy band 'NSYNC (news - web sites) sang the American national anthem and double Olympic skating champion Katerina Witt danced to the heavy metal of Kiss, before Bon Jovi's "It's My Life" ignited the biggest pyrotechnic display in American history.
