"Crush" Review 25 September 2000
A Very Solid Rock Record!

A review by Dan, 23, USA / danieldavidstone@yahoo.com

I have been listening to Crush since the album was released and I must say that I am impressed with the Jersey boys latest release. Crush provides a great mix of songs - any rock music fan should be able to find numerous songs that they'll like. Bon Jovi are not out to make artistically profound music and lyrics - they make songs that you can relate to and that are entertaining. Nothing beats a Bon Jovi concert: 2 plus hours of singing along with hits!

Here is my track-by-track overview:

It's My Life 10/10 - It doesn't get much better than this. The song is quite popular in the states and its good to see one of Bon Jovi's "rock" songs chart in the US, because it has mainly been the balads in the 90's. Love the talkbox and the references to Tommy & Gina.

Say It Isn't So 9/10 - Like most listeners, I wasn't big on this song at first...mainly because it is a different sound for Bon Jovi. I love the song now and I think it will do well in the states. Can't wait to see the video for it.

Thank You For Loving Me 8.5/10 - I was slightly disappointed with this ballad, yet it is one of the bands best. I think "Always" is better, but this is pretty darn close...

Two Story Town 9.5/10 - I loved this song from the first time I listened to it.

Next 100 Years 7.5/10 - I was expecting more from this song. Ritchie's guitar work is great, but something just doesn't make this one of the best songs on the album and I can't put my finger on it.

Just Older 10/10 - It reminds me a lot of "Blood on Blood"...Just Older is a true Bon Jovi song. It nicely sums up how the band feels and that are here to continue playing their New Jersey brand of rock!

Mystery Train 10/10 - I'm not sure why a lot of people don't care for this song?!? Yeah, it is a slow tempered song, but I think it is one of their best. The music and lyrics are very soothing on this track.

Save The World 6.5/10 - Don't get me wrong, it's a good song, but I feel like it should have been on either "Slippery When Wet" or "New Jersey" or a soundtrack. I know that it was intended for the "Armegeddon" soundtrack, so it seems out of place on this album.

Captain Crash & The Beauty Queen From Mars 10/10 - One of the most enjoyable songs ever by Bon Jovi. It is fun to listen to every time. A very random song, but very awesome!!

She's A Mystery 7/10 - Again, a great song, but is sounds like it should have been on "Destination Anywhere." It is too slow and really slows the album down after the incredibly upbeat "Captain Crash."

I Got The Girl 8/10 - A very differnt style for the band. It reminds me of "No Doubt." A refreshing stlye from the band.

One Wild Night 9.5/10 - If this song was released in 1988, it would have went straight to #1 in the states. A great rock tune and I'm sure it is great live!

Bon Jovi has spent so much time overseas the past few months, I am glad that they have finally returened to the states. I cannot wait to see them live in November. Kudos to Bon Jovi for stickin to their guns. Let's just hope we won't have to wait 5 more years for the next offering...
