"Crush" Review 31 May 2000
Crush review I

After These Days

A review by Pedro / BadName@mail.pt

When a single band with only 2 original records and a greatest Hits collection Hit the world selling million of records world wide as well as selling out stadiums all over the world from Bombay to London, New Jersey to Tokyo, or Johannesburg to Sidney, there's not much left to say.

After a record that included 10 (Great) ballads with meaningful lyrics and superb musical details never tried before, it was impossible to evolve.

Five years later, after two solo albums (an experimental and an introspective one) THEY RE BACK!

Never did 5 letters mean so much - CRUSH is the perfect title for a perfect Rock album. What seemed hard to follow-up looks like an up-beaten and updated version of These Days. But no-longer do they cry for love wounds, instead they thank everyone for loving them, because now they can really Save the World, as well as telling very funny stories like the ones of Captain Crash and the Beauty Queen from Mars, 2 Story Town or Say it isn't so. As for age as a limit they say they are Just Older. Listening to this album you can sense Richie's guitar power, Tico's up-beaten drums in perfect harmony with Dave's Keyboards, Jon's eternal voice or an orchestration that really fits on an All Time Great Rock'N'Roll record.

Its my life, Next 100 years , Just Older , One Wild Night and Say it isn't so will definitely be this decade's Living on a Prayer, Wanted Dead or Alive, Blood On Blood, Bad Medicine and Keep the Faith respectively.

As for I'll Be There for You, Bed of Roses or Always they are well followed-up by Thank you for loving me and Save the World.

Above all Bon Jovi 2000 is a Classic Rock band with nice ballads, and like it or not (and I love it), it's the new evolution from a band that never stopped growing as musicians, always ahead of its Time, helping music itself to develop.

After listening to this album I am really looking forward for a live show here in Portugal to have a "real" ONE WILD NIGHT.

For Jon, Richie, Dave and Tico I can only tell you 5 words:
Thank You for Loving Me. :)
