Long Awaited Comeback
Well, the long- awaited Crush is finally here. Five years of waiting is over. What did we get? A rocking, back to the 80īs type record. Crush is for sure a good album, but clearly not their best.
1. ITīS MY LIFE
The first thoughts are, as Richie put it, this is a cousin of Livin On A Prayer. A really mighty and bombastic song. There couldnīt have been a better first single. A big guitar song and great chorus. Kicks your head off. Very well fighting of the best songs honor with two other songs.
2. SAY IT ISNīT SO
I hate changeg and robotic voice everywhere in music, but it works well here. I like the lyrics, they ainīt for sure bad. This is another "different" song in the Bon Jovi production, but I like this one.
3. THANK YOU FOR LOVING ME
Series continue; Bon Jovis larger than life lovesongs. Nice piano here. Whatīs that guitar solo all about? Itīs less than 10 seconds. Nice lyrics, although you have the feeling that you have heard them many times before. A great and beautiful lovesong.
4. TWO STORY TOWN
This rocks pretty well. Good tune. Kinda rolling beat.
Great guitar riff, whoever it first made up (Joan Osbourne thingie). Good chorus, this is a great rocking piece.
5. NEXT 100 YEARS
The great mighty drum intro didnīt last long, which is a pity. Reminded a bit of Innuendo by Queen. I like that chorus, itīs really good. Something that doesnīt catch me is that long heavy solo in the end. This features the longest guitar solo by Richie, which is a good thing, but I still find the heavy part unnecessary. Although I do like the orchestra. Somehow incomplete song. Guess itīs the short lyrics. They tried to fill the gap of short lyrics with a long solo in the end.
6. JUST OLDER
Great feeling. The most meaningful song of the album. Reminds a lot of Blood on Blood, but hey, thatīs one of my favorite songs. Definietly features the best lyrics on the album. This is the most epic song of the album. Some others are Blood on Blood, Dry County and These Days. When we had them, we missed rockers, and now we miss them.
Those three are better than anything, and this belongs to the same group. I think this is too short. It ends pretty quickly. This isnīt for sure far away from the title of the best song of album.
A marvellous song with some real meaning.
7. MYSTERY TRAIN
Mystery Train and Sheīs a Mystery have lyrics completely alike, but this is a way lot better. Nice little tune. A relaxing and happy ballad.
8. SAVE THE WORLD
The second power ballad of the album. This reminds a lot of Always.
And I think too much. Theyīre too similar. It really disturbs me.
A good song, but loses greatly to TYFLM.
9. CAPTAIN CRASH AND THE BEAUTY QUEEN FROM MARS
A nice little rock song. Crazy lyrics, but good. You donīt have to take them too seriously. A fun song. Greatly rolling rock song. Catched me right away. This is certainly a good one.
10. SHEīS A MYSTERY
A very sloooow one. Reminds of Itīs Just Me. Clearly the weakest track on the album. Listen to this if you have any sleeping problems.
11. I GOT THE GIRL
These two are the worst tracks on the album. The lyrics really suck.
I donīt like this at all.
12. ONE WILD NIGHT
The intro is a real fun. Rocky as hell. I just canīt get enough of this.
Iīm screaming all the time with that bloody great chorus. One helluva live song. Kicks arse. I canīt make up my mind, which is better, IML or this, so I`ll just give both 10 points.
13. I COULD MAKE A LIVING OUT OF LOVING YOU
Fun intro for sure. Another guitar heavy song. Richie and Tico are excellent here. This bonustrack is better than many regular songs and would have deserved a place on the record.
Crush is very uplifting and full of rockers. Just what we needed.
Nice to have an uptempo record for a while.
Crush isnīt for sure the bands best. The serious and epic Keep the Faith and These Days are both better. Crush is still a very good one.
Itīs good to go on from here. Just hope we donīt have another five years of waiting...
