"These Days" Review 16 June 2001
Ain't nobody left but them These Days

A review by Sam Bora/Nadia Saint

Despite owning all Bon Jovi's albums, including the most recent ones, These Days is still my favourite. the album shows the depth and diversity of the band. The tracks Hey God, All I Want Is Everything and the masterpiece Something To Believe In (on which Jon's voice sounds beautiful) are contemplative and pacy, and Richie's guitar solo on Damned is one of the best.. ever. The title track and Something To Believe In let David's piano-playing shine through and sound innovative and exciting. The pacier tracks, and the rocking Hearts Breaking Even, If That's What It Takes and Something For The Pain, are contrasted with the gorgeous Lie To Me, Diamond Ring, Bitter Wine, My Guitar Lies Bleeding and my personal favourite (with These Days)...(It's Hard) Letting You Go. The album is, in places, mellower than Bon Jovi's other records, but depressing? Only if you want to see it that way.

Rating: 10/10
