"One Wild Night: Live 1985-2001" Review |

Why "One Wild Night" is not a great album
Since i shocked Goujans by not praising Bon Jovi for their live album, I better elaborate my views a bit.
3 weeks ago I drove 10 hours each way to see Bon Jovi perform in Amsterdam. That was an awesome concert! The energy was overwhelming almost all of the time. But it was easy to see, that the old time fans (as I like to see myself) really got up and jumping to the likes of "Wild in the Streets" and "Raise Your Hands" - 2 absolutely happy go lucky songs, which in my opinion is what Bon Jovi is all about. Goujans noticed this too at a live concert!
I think that "One Wild Night" basically is a live version of "Crossroad" - just without the ballads.
I've got over 50 live recordings of Bon Jovi and I've seen a lot of live concerts. I know a good live album when I hear one. And I know Bon Jovi.
Jon Bon Jovi has publicly spoken out that "One Wild Night" is an attempt to rake in new fans. That's his choice. I think it's a bad one. A live album 16 years in the making should not be for the new fans (they can buy "Crossroad"!) - it should be for the long term fans, and thus include songs like "Raise your hands" and "Wild in the streets" which blow the roofs off every concert venue and get the floors hurting by the fans jumping up and down, every time Bon Jovi play them live.
