"Destination Anywhere" Review 31 May 2000
An Art Piece

A review by Iddi / edit_yg@yahoo.com

Well-the first time I heard it I thought "strange" - this album is so much different then the Bon Jovi albums but different DOES NOT MEAN WORSE!

This album taught me that Jon is a poet, not only a songwriter. The lyrics on DA are SIMPELY AMAZING, exteremly mature and shows that Jon had made a huge progress with his thinking, and as a person. He realy goes destination anywhere with this album and put his reputation and public image on the line, and shows enough guts to test his own self worth and self estem infront of the whole world.
The music is more computerised music, which I usualy hate but Jon used it wisely with a taste and to his own good.

1.QUEEN OF NEW ORLEANS
reminded me alot of Tom Petty's "last dance with marry jane" (I think we can blame that on the producer Dave Stuart that produced both of them ).I love the sound- the heavy metal kind of guitar. The first line "she said baby our love just like your songs the beat a'int bad but the words are all wrong" is one of the strongest in the album- wise choise opening the album that way.

2.JANIE DON'T TAKE YOUR LOVE TO TOWN.
Sounds like a love ballad at first but if you listen to the lyrics you realise that it's far from that.Jon's vocals are amazing and sharp.Jon made this song alot different, and for a reason.

3.MIDNIGHT IN CHELSEA
takes a litlle bit of getting used to.It's a magical song
and every person can anderstand it in a different way.Since I first heard it I remain with the question- is he realy the man he wants to be or is it an ironic remark?!

4.UGLY
without this song this album would'nt be complete.A fun song cute lyrics and very spirit lifting. It has that dramatic ending style "diamond ring" when he says "i wish i was as beautiful as you."

5.STARING AT YOUR WINDOW WITH A SUITCASE IN MY HAND
a poem.a beautiful poem.take the time and find yourself in it-this is pretty much what I have to say about the whole album.

6.EVERY WORD WAS A PIECE OF MY HEART
This shoud have been a single - it's for the world to hear.
the music is great.the lyrics are very sencere and brave.only shows that he hasn't "lost his guts..his touch".

7.IT'S JUST ME.
it's just him-that song surprised me because I thought I heard it all- but Jon still holds the gift to break hearts.
the final solo is powerful.the song is interesting full of soul and insperation.

8.DESTINATION ANYWHERE
WOW.

9.LEARNING HOW TO FALL
the pains of maturity. the harmonica got me.It holds the "feel" of the album.on "miracle" from "young guns 2" he says "we have to kick the ground the stars kiss the skies" and here he says "i was flying through the clouds pucker up it's time to kiss the ground".

10.NAKED
didn't andrstand this one.but I loved the speaking part in the end.the music is amazig.

11.LITTLE CITY
a very metaphoric lyrics- like midnight in chelsea.the music is flowing and deep.it hold the soul of "it's just me" and reminded me of "bitter wine" from "these days".

12.AUGUST 7,4:15
It was writen to his manager after his daughter died in a car accident.I think he related to the story because he is a father.the hard melody is sutable for this song-and together with the lyrics it puts you through an experience.

13.COLD HARD HEART.
ending the album with tears rolling on your face.this song is perfect- starts with a very quiet atmosphere and ends with a boom.the vocals are special.

This album goes byond music.
Jon goes byond Bon Jovi. He takes a trip- he tares his heart from his chest and places it for the world to see.It sure took me by surpeise but after "these days" - "we should have seen it coming...."

Take the time and find yourself in this album.
