27 June 2001 - Padova, Italy Concert Review 3 July 2001
We survived at Wembley, but not at Padova - translated into english

A review by Fede and Ardu - translated by Larry / larry1980@iol.it

Hi to everybody who were in Padua, the wrongest place for a Bon Jovi’s show after the Mausoleum of Alicarnassus. Here are our impressions (read them well, dear Piero and dear friends from Croatia). We left from Alba (CN) in order to see the show in Padua, full of expectations, after we read, in the previous setlists, songs like I’ll be there for you, Blaze of glory and Always. Many of us and you came back home disappointed, as if the concert had been cut off in the middle, in the best moment. We were there, after a whole day spent under a scorching sun, crushed and crowded
together, with that kind of security that made more mess and damages than other. For the people who write to you,
Bon Jovi are a benchmark. Their music has been the soundtrack of our life, and seeing half a show has frustrated us a lot. We think, as a lot of you has said, that Jon was ill, and it is absolutely natural he was under the weather. What has deeply disappointed us is that he could spent few words to explain what was happening: we think that such an act could be very appreciated by the enthusiasted crowd. People like Italians have got a matchless ardour, and it seems us that it is not a peculiarity of other Nations, whose people express judgments on us. We felt tenderness for Richie’s embaressment, he seemd to be oblidged to entertaine us. For us, who are Richie’s fans, it was the most beautiful surprise we could receive, just because we litterary mythicized Richie (Richie you are the Supreme Being of the Galaxy). But to this happiness added the sadness to see that nobody knew a single word of Stranger in this town, and that somebody though it was a Status Quo cover! We also think it’s right to spend some words for the great Tico, David and Hugh, who devoted themselves to help a tottering Jon (for, even though Piero hasn’t understood it yet, after more than 48 hours after the end of the concert, Jon was really in troubles), and to give us their enthusiasm.

Jon is a great frontman and a very good singer, but it was the rest of the band, with their own performances, who had inspired him, because they are able to play their instruments in an extraordinary way, making them doing what few other people in the world should be able to do again. So we wonder if the only fact that Jon was ill had been enough to turn a six-years-long waited show into a mediocre
show (except for Richie’s performance), just why Jon’s voice came hardly to us, who were just beyond the pitch for
the fans club only. We read that acoustics didn’t satisfied a lot of you, we don’t totally agree. After we saw two shows at Wembley last year, our disillusion in Padua was bigger than the one of who saw them for the first time; it’s impossible to compare these two events. We didn’t waite for another wonderful show like those, but it made us sad to see Jon feeling so poorly. We sincerely hope that Bon Jovi didn’t want to snob our Country, but it seems right to us to know the true reasons that made the concert ended so early, maybe by an official comunication from the Band.

In the end, just like Jon sings in a passage of These Days (that we hoped to hear last night in Padua) “don’t you
know that all my heroes died”; but we don’t want to believe that one of our four heroes is burst, but only that he had
bad luck that night. We noticed that many people were not intrested in Bon Jovi, and the ones who cried at Vasco could say that they were lucky for they saw Jon without voice instead of Vasco in a very good form! Morover we want to remind you that remebering the wonderful lyrics of Bon Jovi’s songs makes you feeling better during the show.

THIS IS FOR ALL THE COWBOYS OUTTHERE!

See ya on the road!

FEDE & ARDU (We survived at Wembley, as our t-shirt showed on our backs)

PS: for the ones who saw BJ for the first time in Padua: those weren’t the “original” BJ, believe us, and KEEP THE FAITH!

PPS: greetings to Lorenzo from Milan, Fabio and Larry
