20 August 2000 - London, UK Concert Review 12 September 2000
Hello London, goodbye Wembley

A review by Beauty / cajun_queen@eresmas.com

I won't forget that magic week in my whole life... I'd like to share with all you my glory days in London!
Although I've chose only August 20th night, I'll tell ya about both Wembley Stadium nights, the best night I've ever had... Let's start!!
I was to U.K with 8 other close friends of mine! Now I remember the mothns before our trip with a lot of love... four months just waiting for get your tickets by the Internet and planning all the trip is a real stress time! Oh, I forgot it! I'm from Spain!
We were on London from August 16th to 23rd. he first time we were to the Stadium was on August 17th... I can't describe you what I felt when I saw Wembley from the train... (Yeah, the travel took us about 45 minutes in the tube...) And the way from the train station to the place seemed to never end!! It was great, but horrible at the same time to walk and see Wembley nearer and nearer, but feel you never arrive!!!! Our plan was sleep there the night before the first show, but there a police man told us we couldn't do that 'cause the zone was going to be closed until Saturday morning at about 9 o'clock... So we refused sleep there... For this and 'cause the area is not so good, you know what I mean!! ;)
So we decided to go there on Saturday morning, so, sooooo soon.. At 5 a-m... We arrived to Wembley at 7 o'clock finally, and we started to be in queue... In this moment there were only a few persons, and we were some of the first ones... But things started to change at 8 and 9 o'clock: lots of people arrived!!! But it didn't mind a thing, 'cause we were almost the first!!!
Well, we stayed there, on that stairs, for 8 hours... But it wasn't a big deal, it was funny! There were a lot of security people, so enchating, who were talking to us all the time. The best was the organitation of the security, you know, really fantastic.
At 11 o'clock they started put us music by megaphonie, great songs for help us on the wait... And for us not to hear the sound test!!! But it wasn't enough, 'cause everybody was trying to guess which song were the boys playing!! It was so funny: "OH, I think is "It's my life", listen at Richie!! yeah, I can hear it!" You can imagine the situation!!
The worst started at 2 o'clock.. You only saw people, and people, and people... And the door will be opened at 3:30... We were afraid 'cause we didn't know how the enter to the Stadium was going to be like... We didn't know if we had to run, or we didn't know what happened with the famous Wembley stairs... Because of these, we were so nervous... And the best happened at 3, only 30 minutes before enter!!! We knew in that moment that they were giving the BWJBJ brazaletes for the reserved zone!! The last ones!! At least, we got them! You can imagine our faces with those things on our hands!!! We knew now that: we were going to see the band so,sooo near!!!! Yeah! I couldn't believe it, my first Bon Jovi concert, and I was going to be on the first rows!!!!
The final hour arrived: 3:30... We run until the place where they broke the part of your ticket, and after that... They don't let you run... You go to a door, go down a big stairs (yeah, the famous stairs are not as dangerous as they told me!!!!!) and you arrived to the floor (hey, great floor, of hard plastic, ideal for concerts!) an the police didn't let you run... SO I went walking fast until the reserved area... When I enter I scream at the air: "I get it"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I coulnd't believe it! There I started looking for my friends, and I found them. We all were quite near... It was great!!!!
Almost an hour after that the first suporters performerd. It was a trio called "Dum Dums", they sound quite fine, it was funny! After that, played the mean suporters, "Top Loader"... I didn't like them...They played for 40 minutes, but how long was it!!!
And then... Started our time... We saw Obie O'Brien, even talked to us! And we saw the tour team preparing everything... The best moment wa when one of they put the Jon's white microphone on the stage... In that moment I reliased I was going to see them live!!! Oh, talking about the stage! It was so simply, in black colours and the same TV-screens than in 1995! The only decorative things were two bar tables at right and left, so cute! We saw at least Tico's drum 8oh,I love it), and Richie and Jon's guitars!! I love their guitars, specially the Jon's black Takamine acoustic! It was a great feeling...
And 30 minutes after... People were expectacting... A music started to sound... It was a cool music! (Now I know is a song called "Woke up this morning", of the group A3. Is the soundtrack of the TV serie "The Sopranos") We all the people (72.000 persons) started to follow the rythm and, when you don't think that, in the TV-screens appears the backstage... The camera goes up the stairs and knocked a door... The door is opened and... There they are!! Our boys! They put together their hands and scream: "Here we go!" And they go out to the stadium!!! Suddenly, the TV-screens turns off... And they go out to the stage!!! It was great! I was on 4th row! They started singing a song wich I knew, but not at all... Everybody was on the same situation!! What were they singing!????? (After the show we reliased that was the song "London calling", they put it us when we were at the queue by megaphonie!!!! ;) And after the begining, it arrived... "Prayer"!!!!!!!! Oh, I won't never forget this moment!! The set list was the next:

CAPTAIN CRASH " THE BEAUTY QUEEN FROM MARS

I can't describe you how great and fantastic was the show, really!!! When all finished, we all though the next concert won't be better... Je,je!! We were wrong!!
My fave moments?? I'll tell you some: "Captain Crash", 'cause I love this song, really love it! Also the classics "Born to be my baby" and "Wild in the streets", "Bed of roses" (this song is so special for me, I coulnd't help crying...), "I got the girl", I looooooooove this song!!! and... The Jon's show in "Sleep"! Believe me, was the funniest part of the show, and the most amazing!!! Jon made an auto-parody of himslef as actor, was great!!
It was my first Jovi show, and it was unforgattable... We arrived to the Residence, and leave it again at 6:45 in the Sunday morning. We arrived to the Stadium at 9 o'clock 'cause in Sunday the tube of London doesn't open until 7:30... :( But it there was no problem, when we arrived there was people, but not so much, we were almost the first again in the queue, again on C door! That morinig we were more relaxed, 'cause we knew how the enter was going to be, but people was more exited... It was going to be the last event on Wembley, we were going to write a part of the music story!!!!
We had again music on megaphonie, but it was soo cool! They put us songs like "Love in the elevator" of Aerosmith, "Summer of 69" of Bryan Adams, "Smoke in the water" of Deep Purple, "We will rock you" of Queen, and a lot more!! Really nice!
This time we decided to enter to the stadium in couple. We had again the BWJBJ brazaletes, and we entered again to the reserved zone!! I arrived with Juan, one of my friends, and we stayed quite near of the stage, with my other friends, but... 30 minutes after that, people stood up, and it was very disgusting... The band wouldn't play until 2 hours after, and I felt very bad there, so Juan and I decided to go to the end of the reserved zone... I guess it was the best desition we took!!! From there we saw the show perfectly, even better than in a nearer place 'cause you can see the whole show easily! And we were near, only 10 metres far, more or less!!! There I releised the most beautiful thing I had from the shows: all the different people who was there for see Bon Jovi live: there was marriage with their children, people of 60 years old, 30s ones, 20s... I guess I was one of the youngest persons there... I coulnd't believe it, Bon Jovi made that thing that only the biggest groups do: to keep together in a place people as different!!!! Was in this moment when I knew they are the band who'll get the place of Bruce Springsteen, even Rolling Stones on the stage, they are the nect kings. And I'm not the only one who think that!
This time the first suporter was Andreas Johnson. I loved his performer, he was great! I loved "Glorious" live. After played again Top Leader... I pass all their show liying in the floor! I don't lie you!!! ;) I hate these guys.... :(
And them, our Jersey guys!!! The first best thing and amazing: Jon's clothes He was dressed as the Elvis Presley of XXIst century!!!! He wear a white and brilliant clothes with fire flames!!! As the King wore in his last years!!! Great, really!!
I only can tell you that this concert was the best moment in my life... And maybe one of the best Bon Jovi shows...They played for almost 3 hours, and people were only a voice... The feelings was undescriptible... And they were so, so happy, they also coulnd't believe it... There was a thing at the end of "Bad Name"... We sung all together that of "I played my part and you played your game, you give love a bad name!!", and Jon stayed there, looking at us, for about 30 seconds... Then he went to Tico's drum and make a sign to the boys, as telling them: "We got it!".... Yeah, they got it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The repertory was the next:

LIVIN' ON A PRAYER
YOU GIVE LOVE A BAD NAME
CAPTAIN CRASH " THE BEAUTY QUEEN FROM MARS

ONE WILD NIGHT
BORN TO BE MY BABY
IT'S MY LIFE
RUNAWAY
BED OF ROSES

WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE
Encore 2: THESE DAYS
KEEP THE FAITH (sympathy for the devil)
Encore 3: NEXT 100 YEARS
THANK YOU FOR LOVING ME

My fave moments... This time I can't choose, but maybe... "These days", was soooo special for me... Also "Saturday", "I got the girl" (I looked to one of the bar tables on the stage, and I saw Dorothea, April and the childrens... During the song, Stephanie looked at Jon and say hello to him with the arm in the air... I won't never forget Jon's smile at this moment...), "Just Older", I love this song, was so emotional, and... I don't know! I only can wait on having the show in video or audio as soon as possible!!!!!!
When the show finished, I looked at Wembley at last time, and I started crying... Jon said something at the show than I won't never forget: "It's just a honour to be last band who play here... We all know the ghost of this Stadium... So carry it with you..." I feet the feeling of this place where most of the biggest bands of the world have played, as Queen or the Stones, and it was also a honour for me be one of the last persons who looked at it for last time...

It has been too for me a pleassure to share this memories with all you... So keep the faith, hope you enjoyed of their live this Summer, or if you're going to do it, c'mon, get ready!!!
