19 July 2001 - Montreal, Quebec, Canada Concert Review |

Good, but not great
I've seen Bon Jovi since the Slippery tour back in 87 at the old Forum with Cinderella, and this was the worst show I've seen. But it was Bon Jovi, which makes it a better show than most. Having seen them on the ball many times, even as recently as last November, it was a disappointing concert last night. They seemed tired, and were going through the motions. There were points in the show when Jon would be staring at the drumkit sipping on something during Ritchie's solo, and wouldn't move until it was time to sing, then turn around. There were moments of excitement, don't get me wrong. But the setlist was uninspiring. As a fan, I loved Raise Your Hands, Wild In the Streets, and Wild Is the Wind. But there were so many other songs that were missing. Jon didn't address the crowd very much either. I really liked his speech during the last leg of the tour, where he chronicled his foray into acting, which ended in him being rescued by the superheroes (cue Ritchie, Tico and David). No speech this time.
Anyways, all in all, a better show than anything being offered by the "rock" bands of today. But when compared to their illustrious past, they feel short last night.
