27 July 2001 - E. Rutherford, NJ, USA Concert Review 29 July 2001
Welcome to the Church of Rock N' Roll.....

A review by Phil D. / BKLYNKID22@aol.com

"Welcome to the Church of Rock N' Roll where there are no sinners." -- Jon Bon Jovi

The boys of rock n' roll have returned home. New Jersey. Giants Stadium. 2:25 of heart pounding rock n' roll. 20 songs. A rock show unlike any other rock show.

This was my first Bon Jovi concert and all I have to say is that it was unbelievable. Bon Jovi came home. It was a night filled with energy, filled with beautiful imagry and filled with thousands of loyal fans singing along religiously. As Jon stated, "Welcome to the Church of Rock N' Roll.." Tonight, Giants Stadium was the church. He was the preacher. The band were the alter boys. The fans were the worshipers.

The stage was set up with a building back ground with Superman logos planted on front. Then the elevator came up and Bon Jovi emerged. They dived right into One Wild Night, a song from their current release, Crush.

Bon Jovi played a number of hits which included Livin' on a Prayer, You Give Love a Bad Name and Born to be my Baby. Other songs included Bed of Roses, Keep the Faith and Blaze of Glory. They only played three other songs from their current release; It's My Life, I Got the Girl and Just Older.

A huge highlight of the night was when Jon Bon Jovi handed the reigns over to Richie Sambora who played his 1991 hit Stranger in this Town after an emotionally charged performance of Bed of Roses.

When Bon Jovi finished the concert with Bad Medicine, many thought it was over. Far from the truth. They came out with two unbelievable encores. The first was comprised of Always and Someday I'll Be Saturday Night. The second encore was comprised of Wanted Dead or Alive and Tequila/Twist and Shout.

At the end, there was a spectacular fire works display that lit up the Jersey sky.

All the worshipers left the church feeling blessed and content. Their preacher led them through a long ass rock n' roll sermon. A sermon that was well worth listening to.
