30 August 2000 - Zurich, Switzerland Concert Review 25 October 2000
LET IT ROCK!!!

A review by Luigi Saporiti / saporiti.l@tin.it

I'm an Italian fan of Bon Jovi; when I heard that the Italian concert of the band in Modena in September was cancelled, I decided to make a trip to Switzerland to see them.I arrived in front of the Letzigrund Stadion in Zurich at noon, there were already some boys and girls waiting for the gates to open; they opened at about 2pm and we all ran in as fast as we could to get a place in front of the stage. We had been standing in the rain for some hours; Toploader came on stage at 5.30, then it was up to a local band to perform, but we were all waiting for our favourite band .At 7.45 the two maxiscreens at both sides of the stage showed Jon and the band coming in; we all began to scream; Tico, David, Richie and Hugh were the first to come on stage, they started playing "Livin' on a Prayer" and then Jon came in just in time to begin singing. I felt so excited because I could see and listen to my favourite band at close quarters. After the first song, Jon said:"We have 3 hours to spend together" and he also pointed to a helicopter in the sky that was shooting the concert to make a DVD of the show. The band performed some of their "old" hits and some of the songs of the album Crush. Jon invited us to let us hear our voice:"Hey, you've spent too much time with boybands, but we are a male band!". At the half of the concert he came down to shake hands with the fans, I stretched to try to reach him, but unfortunately I didn't succeed in touching his hand. At about 9.45 Jon said:"Thank you, good night" and BJ left the stage; we were very disappointed and we screamed because we wanted more songs! After five minutes, BJ came back on stage, performed a few songs, thanked us again and took a bow; they went away but came back again for the last part of their show; their last song was "Keep the Faith" (a good wish), all the band came to the front of the stage, a burst of cheering thanked them, they thanked us, said:"See you next time" and left. At the end of the show a great pyrotechnic display said good-bye to us. What I appreciated most were the 2 big arms that swelled at both sides of the stage during "Lay your hands on me". The songs I liked most were:"Born to be my baby" because I didn't expect the band to perform it, "Someday I'll be Saturday Night" and "It's my life". I really liked the show, but I must confess that I would have liked to listen to some songs from "These Days" and the song that marked their come-back last year, "Real Life". I'll never forget that magic evening, on 30th August 2000. I want to say that BJ ARE ALWAYS THE BEST and I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE THEM SOON IN ITALY ON TOUR.
