20 February 2003 - Toronto, Ontario, Canada Concert Review 22 February 2003
Just Older

A review by Rachel / rachsmith99@hotmail.com

"Just Older," a song title of an exact portrayal of the greatest rock band ever! The faces on the 20,000 screaming fans as Jon, Richie, David, and Tico stepped onto the stage says it all. It was no surprise that more than half of the energized 20,000 fans were women; all hoping to get a glimpse and maybe even a pearly white smile from the rock-god himself, Jon Bon Jovi. As they opened with the song of their new self-titled album "Bounce" three enormous satellite dishes displayed the four men right up close and personal. This was followed by the oldies, but the goodies "You Give Love A Bad Name", Wild In the Streets", and the well known "Livin' On A Prayer". From that point on, there was not a single sole left sitting in their seat. 40,000 feet were planted on the floor while singing and dancing along to the tunes of their first single from their new album, "Everyday", the oh so popular "Undivided", and their first ever single "Runaway" which was only appreciated by the real fans in the front rows. "Damned" was a pleasant surprise, it being a song from a not-so crowd pleasing album "These Days". The fan favourite is the song, or should I say the anthem, "Wanted Dead or Alive". The loving rapport between Jon and Richie as they simultaneously play the opening riff on their guitars makes you forget about their problems on tour in the late 80s and early 90s. It was nice of Jon to let Richie take centre stage for a few moments while he played the woman-pleaser, "I'll be there for you". Bon Jovi ended their set with some good old-school tunes including "Raise Your Hands", "Someday I'll Be Saturday Night", "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead", and "Born To Be My Baby". As the sold-out crowd roared for more songs in the Air Canada Centre, Jon, Richie, David, and Tico came back for an unforgettable encore. As they covered Bowie's song "Heroes", September 11th photographs were shown on the huge screens. This was followed up by "Keep the Faith", "Bad Medicine" (Shout), "Rock 'n' Roll Music", and last but certainly not least, "Twist & Shout". Jon, Richie, Tico, and David took a well deserved bow as the 2003 Bon Jovi Toronto concert finally came to an end around 11:30. One thing's for sure, they're not old...just older!
