This was the fourth time I'd seen the guys (2x on OWN tour, once in England for a radio show last fall) and it was definitely awesome to hear all the new Bounce material. I was the closest I've ever been....first section on the right of the stage about 20-30 feet from JBJ...we went completely nuts, and Jon pointed to us and smiled a couple times. The guys seemed a little down and unenthusiastic at first... then before Runaway we kind of found out why... Jon said that David Bryan's dad had just died the day before...we all felt so bad, and for the next few songs it looked like Jon was going to break down. But all went well... they all seemed to cheer up and by mid-set were enjoying themselves pretty well, or at least pretending to.
Setlist was ok, but I really wanted to hear Blood on Blood and In These Arms...could have done without the addition of Blaze of Glory, but no real complaints. We DID get to hear Always, which was sweet (I've heard they don't play it much...but I've now heard it at 3 out of the 4 shows I've seen....am I just lucky?)
Best stuff of the night for me included Right Side of Wrong (Dave was just amazing...I feel bad for the people at the shows that get 'Joey' instead of this one), Born to be my Baby, Raise Your Hands, and maybe even The Distance and Hook Me Up....I was expecting to like Undivided more than I did...it was just too slow, but ended up enjoying The Distance and Hook Me Up more than I could've imagined....Richie, was of course, sweet on "I'll Be There for You"
Anyways, the guys put on a GREAT show, especially under the circumstances, and I'll cya all on August 8th at Giants Stadium!
