7 March 2003 - Philadelphia, PA, USA Concert Review 9 March 2003
What an amazing first Jovi concert!!!

A review by Nick

WOW, this was my first Jovi show, and it was really everything I had ever dreamed of. The crowd was kinda of lame at the beginning, but Jon had them bouncing soon enough. The setlist was spectacular, and they just kept going from song to song like there was no tomorrow... I really felt like they played 50 songs it was so long. Some funny moments were when Jon forgot the third verse of Bed of Roses. He started laughing and then Dave called him over and told him the words. Jon shook his head and said "oh yeah yeah, I knew I had heard this song before :)Then at the end he started aplogizing to us but said that at least he sings his songs every night and doesn't lip sync. Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night was Diamond Ring...it came out of nowhere, and it wasn't even the acoustic version since Richie was doing all types of electric riffs and solos.

My personal favorite was Right Side of Wrong, where Dave did a 2-3 minute piano solo. The screens were playing a pre-recorded movie of some dudes getting busted in a bank robbery, and during Richie's solo, and Jon was looking at the screen and acting out his dismay at the guys getting caught by the cops...it was really funny. The best performance of the night was probably Someday I'll Be Saturday, where John added about two or three new verses durring the part where the song slows down and he hums "someday I'll be saturday." By the end, he had everyone pumped for the song to explode again that we all started screaming "Hey man, I'm alive...!". The encore was rather short, with Keep the Faith and Bad Medicine, but by then, the boys had already done so much that no one should have left dissapointed. The stage and lighting were also spectacular, especially the flashing screen of stars behind the satellites during "The Distance." Everything was so smoothly and professionally done, and it far outclassed the perfomance of the Goo Goo Dolls, which wasn't bad in itself. I really hope I get to see them again, it was an amazing night! And they'll be back in Philly on July 24 for the summer tour!

JOVI 4 EVER!
