8 June 2003 - Ostend, Belgium Concert Review 9 June 2003
short Ostend review... very nice show

A review by Elvistico / kevin.gaudeus@skynet.be

I won't give the setlist because i can't remember it as it was exactly, but i can tell that Ostend was a real great show.

The setlist was top from start to finish, except for the fact that the finish came a little too soon :) (after 2h15) The show started of with bounce, bad name and Wild in the Streets as usual. Later in the show, the highlights surely were a magnificent version of The Distance and Undivided. We also received Lay your hands on me (which was not played many times during this tour) and an absolute surprise was I'd die for you. Jon announced this as something that they have not played for 6 or 7 years. The song was a request to some fans in the front ;-) Further more everything was as always, and this means... better than any other band in the world. Richie was in absolute super shape. He really played inspired and was in a super mood. Some little accents in the solo's with just so much feeling... this is a guitar player speaking here hey:-)

Other great moments: Richie's I'll be there for you and blood on blood. And of course: it wouldn't have been Belguim if nothing strange would happen, and ... it happene: at a point in time some crazy guy managed to jump on stage an ran completely over the stage from one side to the other, behind Jon and in in front of Richie, with a (slow) security guy behind him. Later,Jon and Richie joked about this little 'incident': "This guy is now in our dressing rooms drinking all our beer:) or maybe he's now getting his ass kicked by security :-)"

Well, i promised a short review... so let's stick with this: I was another great show with a fairly different setlist than the one they played e.g. last week in Gelsenkirschen, a band in great shape and good mood and most of all... perfectly played songs. The only minor point about the show was that the back of the stage had to remain open so that the lightshow was not that great as long as it wasn't totally dark, because you could see right 'through' the stage. The 'open' back of the stage was because of the very strong wind (security reasons). So the little 'star lights' were not used :( ... but after all: i didn't even matter! It was just perfect!

See ya all in LONDON!!!

Elvistico ;-)
