19 July 2003 - Detroit, MI, USA Concert Review 22 July 2003
High Octane!

A review by Jean-Paul / courville3@msn.com

I flew out from California to see this show and it was well worth it. The Goo Goo Dolls lacked in thier presentation, Rzenik was more entertaining speaking to the crowd between songs than when they actually performed. Sheryl Crow was sexy and sleak...great performance. No Kid Rock cameo however, during her song" All I wanna Do" she made a comment that there was a party at Richie Samboras hotel room, then she asked who wanted to crash it...Eruption in the crowd!

When Bon Jovi took the stage there was an extremely thick feeling of energy throughout! When Richie Sambora came out he was fired up, swaying back and forth motioning to the audience while holding his guitar like it was his weapon! The spotlight hit him and he rocked the intro to Bounce, Jon emerged from the back of the drum cage and the stadium erupted! Id Die For You was a surprise in the set, the band played it harder and with more attitude than th recorded version. Sambora taking lead vocals on Ill Be There For You was classic, when he gave the lyric "You say you've cried a thousand rivers" his voice was powerful, bluesy, and clear toned and of course underrated. Bad Medicine not following Ill Sleep When Im Dead was great because I didn't know what was coming next (medicine came later), they added Dancin In the Street as a teaser. This being the Bounce tour I was shocked that the only played 3 tracks; Bounce, Everyday, and Misunderstood (Least favorite)..I was looking forward to hearing Undivided, The Distance, Hook Me Up, and the Right Side of Wrong in a live venue. The guys were putting their souls into the show playing each song as they were playing it for the first time. So many bands have fallen to the wasteside due to their lack of passion by getting tired of playing songs etc, not the boys from Jersey...They know what thier fans want and what the individuals who have never seen a Bon Jovi spectacle would expect! I would have loved to see Jon bring out Sheryl Crow and others to rock some Bob Seger tunes but they jammed for 2 1/2 hours! They didn't even looked winded or ready to leave either. You can always count on their shows to get you pumped up. The music industry doesn't realize how important of a gift Bon Jovi is. Jon introduced the band at the end and he did it with the upmost respect for his bandmates by giving them so much credit. High Octane performance.
